Hey howsit james, I dont use bait cotton but use sowing cotton, I simply take a 2m section of the cotton fold it in half and then fold it in half again, then you'll have 4 strands of cotton then tie a knot in each end of the cotton, then trim the excess off. Then make a loop in your kite line, attach a big swivel via a catspaw then tie the one end of the cotton to your swivel and the other end to your trace swivel.
Once I have done this I usually will snap one of the strands so there's 3(will work 90% of the time) when there's very little wind and its a smaller bait then I will send it out on just 2 strands. 1kg bait and smaller, 2 strands, between 1 and 2.5kg's 3 strands,4 strands-.2.5kg baits with a medium to strong wind. Usually you just let the kite freespool then tighten up and before you striked 3 times the bait is dropped. Works like a bomb and very cheap but tying the cotton on the rocks can be a little tricky so what I've done now is bought a number of cheap sowing pins(the clip ones) and tied the cotton to each end that way when you get to the water it's just clip, clip and you're ready to send out a big bait.
