Hi guys, i currently have a daiwa exceller spinning rod and 2500 daiwa regal. Great for super light estuary fishing, but i have had not much joy in chasing fish in the estuaries!

Looking to maybe get a shimano exage 10ft spinning rod and BG30 or BG60 to match it. want it for throwing bigger spoons, poppers, halco lures etc off the surf and off the bricks targeting mainly cob, shad and leerie...

which reel size is best suited to a 10 foot?what is the cast weight of the exage spinning rod? what pound braid is best suited? which size reel is best suited for the rod etc?

any help will be much appreciated. Also, does any1 here own a similar mentioned setup they're willing tom part with :::S

thanx...FF

I use a shimano CSC76H with a 6600 Ambasador reel, a stunning combination. I use 50 lb braid on it and many fish has underestimated this combo.

Go to you local stationary shop and get some holographic paper that can stick like a sticker. You used to get some that looked like fish scales, you buy that and send it to me. Then you take some and stick it on your spoon or whatever you use, one side only. Expect to be in for a treat.

Let me add, a long rod is more difficult to spin with, you need a lot more power to swing it than a shorter rod. It is also more difficult in the wind with a long rod...

The 50lb braid works great if you fish structure, if the fish can swim around the rocks because you cannot force it, you lose it.

the bg60 would be perfect on that rod. braid? anything from 12-25lb. i got myself some strikewire, 24lb = 0.15mm. hope its any good

many rods in the 1-3 oz range from Berkley, Daiwa, Shimano and probably a few others aswell.

Just a note, go check out a Freshwater rod or two in the 10ft range .... they can also cast 3oz (at a much lower price).

10ft is for me the max lenght to spin with (when using a grinder), but that's a personal choice.
If you go with heavier lures you gonna have to start looking at wearing a glove when you push a plug hard !

Hey I know a lot but I don't know everything ! If you want to wait untill the old witch comes back from her mother's I can ask her, she knows every shop there is in and out, can probably tell you the exact price too as well as the rack you'll find it on.

Hey Neil, not every one can be a power monster to throw those long rods. Remember the frequency you work an area with is also important.

If you want to fish behind the breakers then get a canoe, but not the junk you get in shops. I saw a guy with one that was probably 8m long and 1m200 wide and about 150mm thick, shaped like a giant surf board. The nose was curled upward. He tied his stuff to it, within 3 minutes he was behind the breakes and fishing there. That is exactly where the nice ones are. It doesn't even have to be heavy, you get some wonderfull foams (Sondor) that is most suitable for that.
