Hi guys,

I'm new to PE (as well as dropshot fishing) and was wondering if you you could wisper some of your secret fishing spots to me?

I would like to dropshot of my ski if possible - any ideas as to where I might have some fun?

Hi Paddle
I am hardly ever online anymore so I might only be able to help you once. Most important - Get hold of Marshie - he is a Sealine member that also knows places with a ski as well as a light tackle specialist. At the moment I hear that live shad at the harbour wall with your ski or boat will produce some good Garrick.

Paddle,
hope you're still on this forum.

ski fishing .. anywhere and everywhere

On a pushing tide ...
Launch by Noordhoek, row in and turn either left or right, you will be into elf (early morning / late afternoon)
By harbour wall, elf, leeries and cob
Around Brighton Pier towards Bluewater bay .. elf, leeries and cob

At the point by the lighthouse (Cape Receive), you will get anything and everything from BIG elf, Leerie, cob, yellowtail and more

Off a small boat and ski PE is a GREAT place to fish, LOTS OF FISH.

Don't forget about ST Francis aswell, especially around the lighthouse !

Thanks... :D

What kind of bait is the best - live bait?

Can I use Lures for the Shad/Leeries?

How far do you guys paddle out?

I read somewhere that you need a licence for "boat fishing" to fish from a ski - is that true or can I just paddle out and fish with my normal fishing licence? (new to this kind of fishing?

Sorry for all the question... :?

Hi Paddle, I have sent you a pm with a link to some useful information. Let me know if there is any additional info you require.  There are excellent leerie at the harbour wall at the moment - we got 5 on Friday.

For fishing off any vessel you need the additional licence (last box on Post office application) it's either R45 or R70.

bait for elf - pilchard (on drift) , silver & copper/bronze spoon, dropshot, other lures.

how far to row out, off the boat we catch 50m-100m behind the waves, don't go to close !

when i go deepsea and use bait - i only use chokka. I have been out on a boat with 7 other guys and they all used anything and everything, i only used chokka, they didn't catch any more than me.

Yes very accessable,

if you are willing to punch through a few waves then you can either launch Brighton beach or swartkops mouth, early morning late afternoon is elf and leerie time.

From swartkops all the way to the harbour is good for elf, leerie and good cob. Other fish also available.

Then there is Noordhoek (close to blougat) with about a 1-2km row to the point (trawl there), where you can encounter monster elf, yellowtail and just about any and every other fish you find in our waters.

St Francis is also very good, but first do PE, enough fish here.

If you are crazy, you can launch Swartkops and row to St Croix, only about 10-14nm, but fishing is also good there. Just a tad on the far side ... :)

Thanks,
Sorry for all the questions but I'm very keen to get out and do some fishing... :dban:

If you leave your car at Noordhoek or Swartkopz - will they be safe?

Regards

At Noordhoek it will be safe yes,
Brighton beach ... iffy ...
Swartkops (by the mouth), yes
Tigerbay (up the river) ... NO

if u do swartkops/bluewaterbay, then park your car by the mouth, there are houses there with people always moving around, I have parked there many many times and it is safe.

Never had my car broken into by Brighton Pier, but have heard of one or 2 cases. Most people target elf and leerie off the pier ... and there it's most a case of "wat byt ry skyt" if u know what I mean. Nice fish have come out there.

If u are on a ski, pulling rapalas and throwing ondas / dropshot you will have alot of action.

Noordhoek to Cape Receive you are bound to battle with the BIGGER BOYS.

I've also heard of a few guys that launch skis by Cape Receive, you can take a drive there and just ask the security about it, they should know (I don't). Your vehicle should be quite safe there aswell. Security is very strick (from what I've heard) so they will check your car before and after, and you must pay to enter.

Well I've been so keen to buy myself a ski, but will first have to take a few clients to court to get my money from them. Only then will I be able to buy ...

As for the questions, no problem.

HI Paddle,

Please don't go to Recife unless you are in a group of guys or there are plenty of blokes fishing the spot already.  There have been a number of muggings at Recife the past few months.

You can obtain a permit from pine lodge (either a day permit or for the year).

We have launched from the bay between the beacon and the point plenty.  The swell can get fairly hairy but getting out should not be a problem.  The return home is a different story - with the waves breaking so far out if you come pipe be prepared to swim..... FAR!

We usually paddle around the point and troll / spin behind thunderbolt reef.  Pull the normal 11 - 14 cm Rappies.  We have caught Sarda Sarda, the odd yellow tail (been smashed up plenty) and big shad.  On the bottom with bait you will catch big geelbek, poensies (up to 5 kilos) and the usual reds.  There have also been a number of small red steenbras in the area which is rather encouraging.  My mate got a 2 kilo model about a month ago.

Let me know if you want any additional info.

Like Marshie said.
Fishing from the side alone (Receive) you are bound to get robbed, but if you go for ski and park close to the security boom you and your vehicle will be safe. The robberies by Receive is a fairly new thing, so fishing from the side there it is advisable to be armed.

At the point (Cape Receive) the bay meets the wild side, and the sea can get quite BIG there, with huge swells meeting eachother, therefore you should pay close attention to the sea conditions and the wind. if the sea gets big then you can go back to Noordhoek.
I personally would launch Noordhoek, if there is a issue with the sea picking up you can paddle into the "bay" between Receive and Noordhoek.
You will also be able to do a emergency beaching there (long walk) as there is a sandy beach between the two, close to a area called lookout.
When the sea is iffy for small boats it's DEFINATELY not good for kayaks !
Check weather on Windguru and Magicseaweed before going out.

Correction on distance from Noordhoek to Cape Receive ...

Noordhoek to Receive point : 6.13km
Receive point to beach area (noordhoek direction) :3.2km
Hobie Beach to Receive Point : +- 8km
Hobie Beach to Bellboy : 3.5km
Swartkops mouth to Brighton Pier : 2km

Seems I got my distances a "tiny bit" wrong
