New to fishing dropshots -advice needed

  I want to try leadheads and soft plastics in the surf and gullies. Looked at a  9ft sensation 9ft Daiwa exceler XH and a Shimano 8ft Vengeance 3ounce. Reel i like is
Shimano Sedona 4000

Anyone got some advice on what to buy please

begin with a 1/80z jighead with a very small hook. Use a small piece of camo worm(its deadly). Fish gulliesand target small fish. Once u have caught a few small fish and got some confidence u can then target bigger fish using bigger jigheads and hooks. I say this is because it is very frustrating if u bought all this wonderful expensive tackle and catch no fish. Hope this helps. tight lines

U were given good advice, glad to see the "big fish" syndrome stopping

Have fun catching fish, the big ones will come along when u least expect it

For serious artificial angling you need atleast 2 rods and 1 reel with 2 spools, loaded with 10lb and then say 14-20lb braid

Rods, get a 8ft rated up to 1oz, and a 9ft rated 3oz

Your reel, a versatile size is Shimano 4000-5000 and daiwa 3500-4000 size, the reel must "fit" both rods
Model of reel and rod depends on your budget

Does it make sense ?

Think I'll get the SHimano Vengeance 3ounce with the Shimano Sienna to start. Hope it comes with two spools for diff braid

Get yourself some paddle tails and work the banks and channels in the surf for cob, your fav spots are all good cob spots !

which brand paddle tales and what colour do you recommend

I like natural colours, not a fan of pink
Any make will do, mcarthy has very good realistic colour range
Slow retrieve with the odd jerk
Get on the bank and retrieve off it slowly

I just got 2 shimano vengeance rods (7-30gram / 2.4m and a 20-50gram / 3m) combined with a stradic 2000 and a spheros 4000. Both are loaded with 20lb powerpro and cast like a dream. Cast a 1.5 oz leadhead over 100m the other day with ease. Caught a 4kg barracuda on thursday with no problems. And all of it very reasonably priced.
