NEW SEALINE TEAM MEMBERS

As i said to reefman. This forum/community is going from strength to strength. I think we got over 1000 new members since august. There is unbelievable potential for what we can achieve not only for this forum and the anglers that form part of it but for the angling fraternity as a whole, as well as the often "clouded" image that the general public have about anglers.

Again many thanx, and congratulations to other new members. The amount of knowledge that i've found on here and how freely this information is shared is something i never imagined possible.

Great to be part of this....

Congrats guys.

I do have my reservations on this. Please do not read this in the wrong way and maybe I am completely wrong here, I know that there are a couple of other sealine members who feel the same as I do, but I always feel the need or urge to speak my mind, which is actually a problem cos I am not very good with words and battle to get my message across without pissing somebody off. However.

I am not sure what the goal is by appointing our experts, is it to reward the guys for their contribution to sealine or is keep them here. Doesn't really matter but what it does create is a hierarchy within sealine, now you have the plebs and the experts, I am no expert and will probably will never be one, but with all our experts online I think that it kills healty debate about a subject, cos once the experts has spoken that is discussion closed. I for one don't feel comfortable giving out any advice to anyone anymore because I must now first wait and see what our resident experts have to say, and once they have said their say, normally there is nothing I can add..........that leaves me with no purpose on sealine but to talk kak........which I do pretty well even if I have to say so myself. but have always been keen to give advice where I could.

Once again please do not read this in the wrong way, I have learned a lot and I mean a lot from the guys (our experts) here on sealine but have also learned a lot from non experts as I think every person here on sealine has their strong points and everyone can teach the next person something. I do not expect any feedback or answers from admin on this posting, like I said I always have to give people my opinion, and this is my opinion.

Cheers

Skropsie.

Not at All Bru,

It is just an aknowledgement to their contribution, but does not mean that once an "Expert" has spoken then thats the final say. Healthy debate is what Sealine runs on, and this should Never stop !!!

Skrops, I hear you... but one of the greatest things about fishing is the fact that you never know it all... you can never stop learning... So even though we recognize our "experts" for the contribution they've made, it doesn't make them the world authority. Our experts have been "handpicked" and every one of them are humble enough to admit that they don't know it all... they know, that as soon as you claim or act as if you do know it all... then the great leveller comes along.... hehehehe to level the playing fields and hand out a few blank scorecards.

So please, if you don't agree with any opinion on Sealine... you have a right to disagree. EVERYONE is entitled to their own opinion.

A good angler might think he knows it all, but a great angler is always humble enough to continue learning.

Hi "Skropsie"

I hear what you are saying, and I understand your view fully, as I also sometimes feels way out of my depth on some discussions.

From my side however, I believe that the "status" that have been afforded to some members is not in essence to elevate some members above the rest. As I understand it from my discussion with Emperor, we are just individuals that have been identified to assist Emperor with the running of various aspects of the site. It is just easier to keep the site alive if some guys share some of the responsibilities on a regular basis. If I may use my "appointment" for an example. I have studied Environmental Sciences (especially Zoology) extensively, and although I will never be an expert in all aspects of Environment and conservation, I will be taking the lead with some initiatives that Emperor have in mind for Sealine.

It would be a great pity if people stop sharing ideas because they are waiting for the "experts" to comment. The "experts" are only there because of their interest in certain aspects and their willingness to keep those aspects alive.

Please guys, you must really speak your minds on every subject, otherwise we are loosing out on a lot of information!!!!!

thanks for the replies guys.

as always you guys are right, after all you are the experts.......::Ssorry I had to say that.

I have no gribes about acknowledging the guys who put the efforts in, but you are creating a hierarchy, already admin and you guys know what the greater plans for Sealine is, we don't and it doesn't matter cos sealine belongs to Emps and he can do with it as he pleases.

There's a greater plan for Sealine??!
Bru, when you find out what those plans are, please let Empz and myself know! :lol:1

Skrops... the plans that I have referred to is actions like dam and beach clean-up socials and awareness projects. We still have no ideas on how exactly to go about it, and we will certainly be asking the opinions of the members on such matters. With the rate that Sealine is growing, Emps will not be able to keep up with all aspects unless he gives up fishing:cry1

Okay Homie have said that the expert are being acknowledged for the effort they have put in.

Reefman said that they are experts but they don't know it all..........:rasta

Critter, you have studied hard and deserve acknowledgement and conservation is not something every Tom, Dick and Harry knows about, so granted.

be fair and consistant with acknowledgements. who is going to help you with the beach/dam clean up projects, only the old hard core sealiners, the guys who always makes an effort to get to a social, the guys who spends thousand of $$$$ to fish in the sealine name, we have over 5000 member but you can make a short list of the hard core sealiner, now if you want to acknowledge ppl for there efforts why not also aknowledge them?

But you can't cos how are you going to do that? So be consistant, give acknowledgement where it is due, but be fair and consistant.

I think we have been consistent in choosing members who contribute towards certain areas of sealine. BUT, agreed! HARDCORE members ought to be acknowledged for their contributions on and off this website! I will discuss this with the rest of the team, and we will together, identify these members and give them the ackowledgement they so deserve.

To those members who give their all towards the advancement of this community. A BIG, THANK YOU!

Hi Skropps! As you know I definitely am not an expert & first to admit it,as I always have an enquiring mind. But what we've tried to do here in Cape Town,is pass on the Angling Brotherhood Spirit via Comps & Socials & offer other future members the opportunity of discovering Sealine and also having the same fun we have had,and so they can share in the same Sealine Experience.During Comps & socials, I bumped into plenty non members looking for the Sealine guys, and asking for Walt,Marthin Baldrick, etc & interested to join but didn't know how to register.I was taken aback at the Comp,as there were some guys, also non members, who asked for Walt & on finding me,shook my hand & patted me on the back for getting a comp together & were going to register & take part in future socials.I then realized that Sealine was getting a lot of magnitude from Socials & Comps & it would be interesting to know how many new members have been added to Sealine since our first social. Also, with crime unstoppable,Sealine allows guys to fish in numbers, and lately I've managed to fish at places like Macassar having met other anglers across Sealine. Also those anglers i now fish with couldn't fish Macassar alone,so it works both ways.Lastly, with Sealine being Nationwide,it makes sense to have provincial or 'Area Reps' for lack of a better word. This would offer Reefman, admin, etc ,more leeway and they can delegate to these 'Area Reps',and concentrate on other Sealine matters.Cheers!

thanks Emps,

Maybe I have been working too long in the corporate world and hate any kind of hierarchy, and that is ultimately what I tried to prevent here on sealine, but you know what it is not my place to tell you how to run sealine.

and it appears that it is only me that feels this way, funny thing is it sure did not sound like that on the b/day bash. but for now I am on my own.

so please don't change anything.

skrops ---- over and out.
