New SA Record Blackfin (177kg)

[ronny]

This fish was caught during the first Postal competition for 2006. It took approx. 1hr to land.

cograts on an excellent catch... i would love to know wat tackle he used esp his reel as a blackfin is one heck off a fighter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[ronny]

Prior to hooking this fish he had a pickup with a Saltiga reel and HMG 365 7+1 rod. The moment he struck the fish, it took off and the 0.50 line parted at the reel. The drag did not give. He changed to his spare reel (Saltist 50) which had 0.47 line on it. Within 5mins he was in with the Blackfin. The wind was pumping NE. We were taking cover lying next to our bags and bait boxes which we used to form a crude barrier from the stinging sand.

Ha ha! Nice one Deon! Want to see how the Saltist performs with the new drag washers, should be a beast compared to stock version.
