New Poppers.

I made a few profiles of designs I thought would be cool but my engineer wouldn't turn the wood for me.

Sealine to the rescue "Again".

Fredster offered to turn the blanks so the profiles went to P.E. by post and did he ever surprise me.

Fredsta, You're the man. I can't wait to get my hands on the poppers.

They are in the mail and should be here next week.

The workmanship is fantastic.

THANK YOU!!!

Have some mana.

The wood was meranti - turns easily and you get a nice finish straight off the tool so long as its a sharp tool. These are just forms to make a mould from.

Would it work to actually make the lure out of Meranti to fish with? Obviously treated and painted.

Lure manufactures use wood as well so it should work.

The polyurethane coated foam ones don't last I'm told so wood should be OK Willie.

Correct!
All hand made poppers are made from wood. Some high end stick baits are made from foam because of their shape and the ability to float or weight it to make it fast or slow sinking. That popper you showed me the other day you wouldn't be able to turn on a lathe for obvious reasons and to make each one by hand, well not it's easy to mimmic each one.

Here's TW's take! If you make a mould and you make a foam popper, the popper will cost you about R2,50 + paint. Now if you make 20 and catch 10 fish, that's a bonus compared to paying R180 and probably getting half the strike rate and half the pleasure. Still nothing better than catching fish on your own lures, right?

I have been experimenting with foams for the reason that I really want to make stick baits. But I'd recommend using wood, it is a lot easier, trust me. It's not as easy as it looks.

Comon Bennie, playing with moulds and plastics is not so difficult and a lot more versatile then wood. The only problem is that once you've bought all the stuff, you are not going to save money.   In my case I have plenty time, so don't mind making lures even if it costs me the same as buying them, its all part of fishing when the weather is bad.
Some of the plastics are more durable then wood when using the lures on rocks where they get bashed.

Mark, that popper is shweet.

Big ups to Fredster. I got my poppers this morning.

Going to the Post Office is normally a long painfull experience but lately it's been different.

You have no idea how lekker it is to stand in a queu when you know there's tackle coming across the counter, it's like being 5 years old on Christmas morning.

You did a s@#t hot job and I'm so grateful.

Ah pity man, was wondering what happened to her... I loved the look af that thing, but gotta say I love the natural finish on the one above, looks like a collectors piece... put a big silver wing on that puppy and she'll blow minds I reckon!

You gonna put a reverse slop on her, like the PD Darter? Nice for rough conditions...
