New Penn Torque

Was fortunate enough to have the smaller 25 with me for a while - and yes I think people will be very surprise. It only launches in Jan 2011. Casting, Line Capacity, Quality & Drag!!!
I gave the Torque 25 to Robbie Janse yesterday to test and get his opinion, so we will wait for his opinion.
There is no problem with line capacity as I loaded it with 500m 30lb whiplash and 200m Trilene Fluoro 20lb and this is the smaller one.
The bigger 40 is currently been tested by Wesley Peenz in Natal.
It's name says it all - Torque... 25lb Drag!!! HT 100 Drag washers!!
It's got "Live Spindle" (free floating spool) system and claims to be the most castable reel in the market space.
Personally I think everyone will be pleasantly surprised!!

Awesome looking specs on the little one you gave Robbie. I have postponed my Christmas shopping till the 40 is launched in January 2011. A bit late seeing that Santas Christmas list from most of the guys is already send...

PENN are really coming to the party, key factors:
The reel is light, it throws a absolute MILE, the drag matches any reel we have on the market in SA and it should come in a little cheaper than the top end reels,
I have tested it in Mozam a few time, and those poor little 50 Kg Blackfins have no chance, best fish to date +130kg Blackfin, 36kg GT and a Sandy + 100kgs........
As mentioned the PENN brand has been dormant, but trust me when the full range gets here it will put Diawa and Shimano to the test,

The few the biggest issues for me with reels,
Casting - The Torque has a floating spool type system, where the spool has no friction and runs freely unless you use the spool tension to slow it down. This really does make for a brilliant casting reel, I am extremely happy with mine.
Weight - The Torque is extremely light and is noticable straight away. For casting you can feel the diff on the total rod weight.
Cranking Power - This was one of the key factors that stood out straight away, It actually threw me off in the beginning because I had to keep checking if I still had my sinker on when winding. Using the slide sinker sometime it doesnt unclip and you battle to get it over banks and rocks etc but with the Torque it just cranks, and with fish the slightly slower retrieve puts you bang in the game while fighting.

Retrieve is around 4.6/1 which is the same as your Shimano Trini's and others.......
The drag is approx 23-30lbs which is more than enough.....we had a situation where I took a client out on the boat the other day off Bazaruto Island and I used to 40 with a belly shine and skirt to see if we could temp a Wahoo or a Sailfish, we hooked a BUS bonnito those proper tanks 9/10 kg class...But i had locked the drag as I had a strike previously from a small marlin and I forgot to easy it off so when this little bonny was close it was still super green, IT took off right next to the boat and actually pulled the client over the gunnel and into the water.....
SO Ya luckily the rod was tied on.....but there is proper power in the drag..........
