new one

New one in the making. Made a master and then the mould. Cast this one with feather light. Put some weight in it, so this one sinks. The feather light helps keep it upright when it swims.

Swam it in the pool today and the action is very nice. A nice left to right action.

The next one will be a flouting one.

Did the foil and now must choose some color for it.

Plenty of time, a small craft knife, sandpaper and a very nice and big cut to the finger. When the craft knife slips it does an awsome job of cutting fingers.

I'm sure there is an easier way to do it, maybe Bennie can give some advise, he is after all the master when it comes to making great lures. Help Bennie, don't want to cut myself again.

Get yourself a MAD drill bit. Multi Angle Drill bit. They work brilliantly.

@ caesar, I really like this one. Looks really good and the method sound spot on. I reckon that shape will work.:first

Thank you Bennie. Will try and get a video posted of the swimming action.

Strange looking tool. Will Builders sell them?. Not in the mood to cut half my finger off again.

Not sure. I get them from the Mica here. Quite expensive but it is the answer for the eye socket recess. It's a Mastercraft product, so any of the stockists I'd imagine.

The hooks are 6/0 Linx hooks. The hook eyes are small. I used these because its the only ones I had at the time. I needed the hooks on for the test swim as it does affect the action. The Linx hooks are cheap, picked them up R9 for 10. They are very sharp but think they are a bit thin. Going to do another test with some heavier hooks.y

I have not weighed the lure, but I have placed 1.5 ounce of weight in it. The feather lite resin is very light so I would guess adding the stainless wire and hooks maybe close to 2 ounce. 38 to 40 grams.

Do you have air bubble problems with your feather lite? Especially with older stuff?

If so, here is some tips.

Always spray a gas blanket into the container when re-closing it. I decant left over PU into buddy bottles. Spray a little gas in and squeeze it till most air is out then tighten the lid. The PU draws moisture from air causing it to make bubbles.

Get some Mould release spray. Mix your resin in a wide container. Mix then spray a little mould release into it, mix quickly again and let it stand for 20 seconds before pouring. The mould release helps the bubbles escape and pop. A vacuum chamber also helps a lot.

Thank you Bennie I will try it.I do get some bubbles, but very small ones and only on some parts of the lure. The thing with featherlite is that you only have a 9 min pot life and cannot let it stand.

Going to try it tonight. I have the release agent I got from AMT, will that work? I think it is called release 200 or something. Hope it works, have it just sitting around.

Very nice lure, and I really like the paint job!!! Should be a killer.

The Multi-angle bits are available from Builders, got mine there, and they really work well.

Bennie, is there an alternative to "Extend-it" as a gas blanket? Last time I went to AMT they told me that they will no longer be keeping stock of it. They suggested I try Nitrogen? I have been toying with the idea of getting a container with a tap at the bottom and then adding a layer of mineral oil or something similar to the top of the resin. We used to do that in the lab to prevent solutions from changing due to evaporation or moisture ingress.

Nitrogen? No, Nitrogen has an SG of 0.9 and air is 1.0. So Nitrogen rises.

Basically any gas that has an SG heavier than air will work. Argon would work. It's a gas used for shielding welding.

Never thought of it that way.... CO2 should also work then... think that's what they use in these "dust off" cans?

The bad part of this is the fact that the salespeople advised me to use nitrogen as an alternative to "extend-it"!

I have noticed that they seem to be moving away from Smooth-On products. Must try Harvey composites, the may have something.
