Hi Guys..

I bought myself 2 GTE 8000c's this weekend and filled the reels with 600 meter of new line..

After a two casts I snapped a trace and saw that my line is wind up really bad..

I put the new line on a stand to spool off when i put in on the reel .. but did not realise it is so wound up .. i know with the magnums you alter the spool wen casting from back to front to prevent this from happening .. but how do you fix this on the baitrunners..

I understand there is a weight with grooves that you can cast with to take out this kink in the cable but how do i know if i will not be winding up the line even further..

Please help guys.. this is affecting my casting and i am snapping off traces due to this..

sorry, nog nooit met my gebeur nie.. ek sit ook nooit meer as 300m op n reel nie... dis maar n waste, baie van daai lyn sien nooit water nie.

Ek het al my lyne by vaaldam 300meter in gevat.. to vat n baber die lyn en trek nog 200 uit.. en toe.. moes ek fight vir die laaste 100m dit was n grroot fight.. maar toe die monster by die kant kom het ek nie n net om hom te skep nie... want hy was 6 meter.. to vat ek n vispen... en slat hom... maar toe ek hom amper uit het... toe Word ek wakker...

You are probably winding the line onto the reel wrong.

I have been shown by a previous springbok angler that if you just put the spool down and start reeling it onto the reel, you cause the coil in the line. This is detrimental to casting distance, I am not sure about the line snapping during a cast though.

What you should be doing is have someone hold the spool with a screw driver or something through the hole in the center of the spool, as the spool is now spinning, the line is comming off straight and doesn't have the coil in it.

This was exactly what i was doing only replaced a screwdriver with a vispen..

The question is.. do you wind the line over the sppol towards your reel or under the spool towards your reel.... ??

TENSION TENSION TENSION TENSION IS ALL THAT I CAN SAY. PUT THE ROLL OF LINE IN A BUCKET OF WATER AND PLACE THE BUCKET ABOUT 10 METERS AWAY AND START WINDING, KEEPING IN MIND THAT YOU ARE HOLDING TENSION ON THE LINE COMINGON TO THE SPOOL.

WHEN YOU HAVE CASTED FOR THE FIRST TIME ALLWAYS KEEP IN MIND THAT SHOULD YOU NOT HAVE A FISH ON WHEN REELING OUT THAT IT IS OF HIGH IMPORTANCE TO ALLWAYS KEEP TENSION ON YOUR LINE WHEN REELING OUT.

I actually caught a fish on each rod on the first cast..

Please tell more.. why does the fish on the line wind your line..

 

PS. i do keep tention on the line .. always..

naruto.. Double x light green and other rod yellow both are doing this..
Bruce.. YES I DO HOLD ROD UPRIGHT ALL THE TIME>.. please elaborate on your question..

I have a relix cyclone 5000 spooled with 9lbs (0.25mm) xx rainbow line. It is a bit overfilled so sometimes when I cast, normally after reeling in and not keeping the line tight, I get a similar problem.
