Need rod advise

Hi guys

I purchased a daiwa saltist 5000 coffee grinder reel spooled with 30lbs braid, and need to purchase a rod for it...Don't want to buy a saltist rod also, its like a matching top and pants.
I am unsure what to buy, looking at a 12-13ft rod, 2 or 3 piece...Cast 4 or 5oz probably?

Plan is to use it as a all rounder rod for rocks and sand beaches..hunting edible fish like galjoen, blacktail and kob

Assassin and blue marlin have rods that I might be interested in

Any advise/ input will be appreciated on what rod to look at and on length and medium, heavy, 2 or 3 piece etc..
I don't have the experience unfortunately, being mostly a bass fisherman

5000 bit small for 12'+ rod, I would not go longer than 11'.
Adrenaline xxx is excellent bang for your buck, awesome blank, 2-piece, 4-6oz. Depends where you buy but should still be around R1300.

5000 size Daiwa is big enough for a rod of over 12 ft for sure.

I have the BG 5000 paired with a Okuma Metaloid 12.6ft that casts 3-5oz and is perfectly balanced.
I use this for all my edible fishing from the rocks or beach, heck even landed a 55kg Cow shark with it 2 weeks ago.

I would also look into the Adrenalin XXX but not sure if they make a 12ft spining version. I am sure someone on here can verify that.

OK, nice to know that can work. I don't know Daiwa well, but well aware of how different eg. a "5000" Shimano can be vs another brand's.
I have a xxx 12' spinning version, my "gallie rod", love it. Far as I know you get them from 10' through to 13'.

Yep they are bigger in size compared to Shimano and Penn reels

Good to know about the XXX I would look into getting a 12ft as well:breakd: One can never have enough tackle!

XXX..Thin and light HMG...cant g wrong. Have the 13ft in my arsenal now.

I however only use it from the beach to hunt kob, Elwis and Bras..Don't wana bang it on the rocks..

The new 13' Makaira 3-5oz would be a good choice too.

The Triple X is a VERY stiff rod and possibly a bit of a broomstick  - much like the old Exage 110H.  In 13ft it might soften up a bit, but really unless you need to throw 6oz you could find something a bit more sensitive and forgiving.

You did'nt mention your budget - but lets assume you're looking for value?

I own a Blue Marlin Truflex Spinning in 13ft and it's rated 3-4oz but can manage 5oz no problem.  This is a budget minded rod and it's not flash but 100% quality. Expect to pay ±R950 if you shop around.

Assasin Spin X Heavy - 12ft (3oz) is the longest that you will find here in it's "budget" range, and you can expect to pay ±R1100.  Assasin rods then leap up in price for longer spinning rods.

These would pair well with the Daiwa 5000 grinder which is more along the line of an 8000+ shimano reel.  I would think that anything less than 12ft would be wrong for that size reel.

Adrenalin XXX rods start at the 10ft 4-6oz, then the 12ft 4-6 oz, the 13ft 5-7oz (all 2 piece).

The 14ft is 5-7oz but 3 piece.

I have the 12ft and my fishing buddy has the 13ft. It is definitely next on my list. As well as the 10ft.

They are pretty stiff rods with lots of back bone, thick walls, thin blanks and aren't terribly light. At least I know its a little more rugged than many of the other thin walled HMG's.

Everyone has their own preference. With the information provided by fellow fisherman you can discern what might work for you and what won't.

just keep in mind....top and pants.

certain rods and reels are made as a set.
guide spacing etc.

so in essence...top and pants might just fit like a glove in a hand.
