Need help with a dropshot rod

Hi Everyone

I'm new to dropshot, I'm looking at buying the Daiwa Exceler 10ft. with extra heavy tip. Anyone have this rod or tried it? What do you think of it? Reviews?

Well if you look at the Daiwa Exceler range the 10ft. comes with heavy and extra heavy, when I tested it at the shop the tip doesn't flex as much, it's quite stiff.

Thanks, with the extra heavy tip it will have the backbone if I hook a heavy fish and will be able to cast out the heavier jig heads,  looking at pairing it up with a Daiwa Exceler 3500 reel and 10-14lb. fireline.

Hi DAZZYD1985

I recently bought a xx heavy Exceller 10ft rod from a friend in Dbn.

No mistake , it is a excellent rod , great quality and worth all its money. But on that lenght I would opt for the XX 9ft Exceller and a 3000 or 3500 Exceller grinder.

My 3500 fits like a glove on the 10ft and performs very well. I use the 10 for small to medium lures and drift bait. I feel its a bit heavy for dropshotting and a over kill.

I love my surf ansd estuary dropshotting but use my 9 ft for the surf and shorter one for estuary.

But then thats my opinion.

Hey Ben

Thanks for the reply. Yeah the rod does look awesome and great quality, that's just what I needed to hear.

You see with the longer 10ft. you will be able to cast further for the surf to reach the backline and with the extra heavy tip it will have the backbone for heavy fish, but after a few hours of dropshotting your arms shoul tire.

So, I think I'm going to buy the 10ft. and at a later stage buy an 8ft.

Do you use braid on your rod? are the guides safe to use braid?

Have you caught any big fish on dropshot? Is it successful?

Yes braid allthe way and guides are 100%.

No big fish yet but average size. But believe me the 7 - 8ft are used by off-shore anglers for dropshotting and they pull mammas with them !  :wfish
