Thanks Limpopo, that is the plate and it shouldn't cost me anything to make, just time consuming.

My commercial friend said don't worry about it, they all use timber, too much risk beaching at night late and the high incidence of slides jamming up, so they remove the slide completely anyway.

But I like things to look professional, so I'll battle on.

Benny, the reason that the boat shops charge so much for these installations is because it is a finicky, shitty little job requiring the skills of mechanical fitting, hydraulics, bending, threading, cutting, grinding and fiberglass work. The difficult part is that these cylinders have been designed for general purpose use and space and the design of the motor wells restrict the installation.

However, mines in!...The double acting cylinders present a whole new host of requirements such as purpose made linkages which do not come with the kit and foul on everything.

I want to fit the shallow drive assembly because I envisage using my boat out of Vilanculos for much of my fishing and there are an awful lot of very shallow places that require tilted motors. I can't see my way clear to fitting T&T cylinders but I'll be quite comfortable with lifting them onto the shallow drive positions by hand.

On my previous Merc 60, I used timber, but it was such a pest. Apart from the fact that the pieces were constantly breaking, they also had to be tied in when undertaking a journey. If you do end up with timber, get transom savers for travelling... in fact, get transom savers... period!

It isn't a double cylinder. Same as yours... ASC only have the one.

They tie the two motors together with a tie bar and push/pull the bar. No mods to fiberglass.

But hey, it's in now...

Bennie, is that the transom mount cylinder with the single connecting rod (unbalanced)? Also, any idea of price for the whole kit (helm, cylinder and hoses)?

Strangely enough, The ASC steering assembly manual refers repeatedly to Baystar, Seastar and Teleflex. However, the markings and decals on the components refer to other manufacturers. Obviously a South African thing.

Hey, it works great! I got discount, comes in a sealed box at R5400 excluding oil.

The instructions and precautions are the same as on Baystar website. Only use for single motor installation and so on.

I had to cut into the glass on the Stb side, on the side of the splash well to get the whole steering assembly in.

The steering cylinder does interfere with the motor mountings, I'm going to try shorten these, I think it will work. I don't have to lift my motors when traveling, I have an offroad trailor. The tilt problem would exist for me only when dumping the boat into the surf. For that in the meantime, I'll just use a piece of timber.

I did use Engen ATF 22D, although the teleflex manual says don't use it. The system did self bleed, although the instructions said it wouldn't.

I used the existing spreader bar between my motors, works great.

I've just got to think about some smart way to make my glass mods look professional, everything else looks great!

Thanks for the feedback mate. Talking of feedback, is the the helm "no feedback"? If you try and turn the motors from side to side, is there any movement on the wheel or is it solid?
