My second dropshot attempt!

TV and magazines has made it out to be a easy way of catching lots of fish, it's actually the opposite, IT'S DAMN HARD WORK ...

but very rewarding at the end of the day !

Hi guys,

TV and mags do make it look easy, but consider the fact that 99% of the TV programs, DVD's and articles are fished over 5 days, that is still not bad!
You must also consider that there is always fish caught for these programs and the guys that do it hardly ever blank.

It's like the saying goes "10% of the anglers catch 90% of the fish" And lets not forget what Gary Player said "The more I practice the luckier I get"

So, learn as much as you can, and fish as often as possible, with more knowledge you will get more fish, it's a fact.

And when you start figuring it out its fun to land fish one after the other while the baiters dont even get a take.

I really need some help ! PLEASE! LOL! After spending another R300 on dropshot lures etc, I still went and caught buggerall! if someone can spare a few minutes to help, I would be gratefull! This is my second time out and again didnt catch... one can only blank so many times and then you stop trying and wasting money...But I really want to get this working!^^..

Ok, so these are the plastics I tried, either on a 1/8 weight hook or 1/4... (thought I'd start small just so I can at least catch a few fish and get the confidence up abit...)

3" Nuclear chicken - had no takes at all

2" Baby shrimp/Bone Jack - had 1 take but no hook-up, only got half the lure back! but no action after that..

3.5" Slick Dolphin Tail Minnow - Blue top... no takes

4" Sand Eel - New Penny - had several takes but felt like really small fish just nibbling at it. the sand eel would be eaten right up to the hook everytime... got tired of having to put a new one on and 2 mins later it was half chowed!

3" Squid - Chart Pepper Neon - no takes either....

Fishing spot - Chain Rocks, Amanzimtoti - outgoing tide with the water being very clean and fairly calm...hardly any wind either. I was dropping in gulleys mostly, and into the waves at shorebreak, about 10meter casts...my fishing buddy and I started there and walked about 500m down the beack, trying every spot we could find....

I just get the feeling either I'm throwing at the wrong spots, my retrieve is wrong, or  I'm using the wrong lure/plastic for the conditions.

Can you guys give me some pointers? E.g. what is a good plastic bait to start with, for a beginner that is... ?

Just to add, I did buy a dvd about dropshot fishing, but all they did was show the tackle and lures (sounded more like they were  just advertising!), but nothing on how to retrieve, what lures is for what conditions etc... so it was a little useless...

Give me a call sometime and I will help get you going, too much to write here

My mother lives in Amanzimtoti and I have been there a few times watching the whole scene from her flat....

I reckon after spring high, fish in the tidal swimming pool and use chokka (with vanilla essence) and not chicken, cause chicken is not natural prey for a fish!
