My rod broke

HI Guys, I need some help. My Exage 1468 middle piece broke / shatterned on my first retrieve, Saturday morning. I believe that some middle sections have some uneaven wall thickness which is the reason for it to break? Any one experienced the same thing?  break.  Can any one please advise on where I can have it replaced or buy a new middle section?

It happened to my father-in-law.
He had it repaired at the Goodwood Tackle Shop, you can also purchase spares from them.
I don't recall whether or not they stock them or order them on request but I know he wasn't out of action with that rod for too long, until it got stolen along with his Torium 30 and entire tackle box (blue back-pack box) - (family member "on tik" took responsibility a while later when he came to apologise)
So my dad's been retired from fishing for a while now.
anyways::tight:

last year a friend of mine broke my loomis tip on a rock,:fbash

so i ordered a new one but when i got it it snapped on the 2nd cast of a 5oz sinker, the tip is rated 7oz. i went back to the store from whom i got the replacement tip and the gave me a no. for the L & F rep in cape town, tried calling him but no answer, smsd, but havent got a reply. is there any way i can get them to check why it broke, surely it was a bad blank or something and should be gaurenteed or am i mistaken>>>

Keep chasing the rep else get the shop to return complete rod to factory for them to inspect it.

Hiya Hentie,

That should just not happen! If the rod is brand new you should go back to the shop you got it from and let them take a look at it and possibly get a replacement.

The Exage rods are very good sticks and that should not happen under normal conditions.

Did you get the rod at Commercial Marine?

That is definitely not normal. If the rod is new, there's no reason that you shouldn't get it exchanged...

I fell on the rocks with my 1468, and the only damage was two chips in the varinish on the butt section. I've used it plenty since then and it's as solid as ever. It's actually one of my favourite rods, just a little heavy!!

Hey Guys,

The best hting to do when a rod is broken is to take it back to the place where you have bought it from.

As far as the Exage is concerned the whole range of Exange rods has been discontinued and you will not even be able to get spares for the rods anymore. Maybe check if you can find the section that broke at a shop that maybe keep spares of rods. if it is the mid section that broke you will not be able to repair it.

For the guy with the Loomis tip take the tip back and ask them to replace it like you say it is not normal for a 5oz sinker to break a 7oz tip. To get Loomis tips is easy. If the place that you bought it from does not want to help you, go to the neares Midas in your area and give them the code that is ont the rod, and buy a new tip.

HI Trophy

The rod is not brand new, however bought it new from Angling Africa (Pta) +- 2 years ago and did not do much fishing with it. I am extermely caring and very carefull with my rods and ensure that it does not bump etc etc. So I was quite astound and surprise when it just snapped on the first pull Saturday morning.

Any advise on locals that can assist/replace or get a new piece from?

Hey H,

You can not have the mid section of a rod repaired. And also the sad thing is the whole Exage range has been discontiued.
You will have to look on the internet for a mid section or phone tackle shops to see if they maybe keep spares for rods, but just remember that you can not fit any other rod's mid section in the rod you have sine the rods are designed differently.

How heavy do you fish?

Maybe you must look in buying a new rod and look for a brand where should something happen to the rod spares will be easliy accessible.

The Poseidon and the Loomis range is something to look at.
