Ok guys,

I decided to make it official.

I will as from today take the journey of getting a barble on lure.

I will keep you updated as to my progress and success.

This has been going on for a while now, but i'll start trying harder.

Any tips or suggestions will be gladly accepted.

I will be in hot pursuit as my time and the weather permits.

Roodeplaat is full up with barbel and they are regularly taken on a Mepps Black Fury (silver blade) No2 or 3.
Best is in the shallows on the Nature reserve side of the dam off a boat using a slowish retrieve just keeping the spinner off the bottom. This will net you bass and snorre.

OK, so i took off early yesterday and took my good buddy Llewellyn out for his last voyage before he returns to Bloemfontein today. We went to Bonamanzi Dam in Paulpietersburg which is a mere 50km drive from me.
This dam has got good sized bass, barbel, blue kurper and a few others. We got on my little dinghy and headed straight across the dam to get to a new spot. The barbel was turning like make, so out comes the red headed salmo hornet 4. I try and put the lure down a meter behind them the moment they turn. Cast past one and bring it in and BAM! I'm on, but seeing that i never caught barbel in this way before i wasn't sure what it was, as my lure was well past where the barbel was turning. It was fighting deep and shook its head once or twice. I honestly thought it was a Blue, but hey, no bass can box like that. So i fight hard, not giving any line, winch it up to the boat to have a good look, and its a nice sized snorre of about 1m long. I heads for the deep again..... and fish off........ hook bent open..... BUT hey, i atleast had a hook up!!!!
Llewellyn then proceeded to get a nice blue on spinner.

Ja, ek ken morgenzon redelik goed. Is juis besig om 'n trip te reel.

Het al baie geelvis op lure gevang daar, Daai goed REV jou soos nog iets.

My een werker se broer bestuur Westoe, so ek kan altyd plan maak, en die manne by Sappi ken my goed....

I got beat up by another barble on Thursday. Bent the hooks open one time.

Got some stronger trebbles now.

Was fishing for bass in dec last year with strike pros lures they about R38 i used a chunky fat baby bass lure and after fishing for about 5 min a caught a barbel of 2Kg and then 10 min later caught another one weighing 1.84Kg the lures is cheap and very productive unforunately lost the lure when the line got sliced by a rock. Happy Fishing

Just a quick update, we have had rain and rain and some more rain for the last two weeks, and lots of cold weather with it. The quest still continues.

yeeha, i managed to klop a small one yesterday. Maybe the drought is broken. If there wasn't so much grass i could've gotten one on crank

Typical me, left the camera on the bakkie and alone on the boat coz Vleisvreter didn't wanna join me...

Was bout 60cm long so should be about a 2kg jobbie.

Good fun, it hit me HARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
