Ok thanks guys. So the motor locking onto the mount in reverse, is not as critical as I was thinking. the mechanism to lock it down is there but not working ( I will have to live for that for now, but these sort of problems bug me terribly ) will have to see what parts are missing and how its supposed to work then I will make a plan. So for now I will slap her back together and deal with the problem later.

Please give consideration to backing-up against the current flow in a tidal river (eg. lower Breede, Gamtoos, etc). Without a locked "reverse" against a flow of 5-7km/h.......... forget it. Your motor (prop) WILL & SHALL lift. On a dam it should be OK, windless, of course. Ons kan bewegingstraagheid (inertia) van die motor se impak(opposing the prop's thrust) met 'n stilstaande voorwerp (karp, klip, boom, rob, walvis, sandbank, etc, etc, etc.) later bespreek.

Cheers
