My new...( only one of its kind ) ...Kamassi - KC

Hi There....

If you know the Supercat 620 that was built by A%G Marine in Port Alfred it also had a Charriot console fitted...

Kamassi Craft dont build a Charriot console KC 520....they build a normal center console boat...

I wanted the Charriot console on my boat as it gives a lot more packing space and more importantly a lot more shelter in rough windy weather...especially for us old toppies.:fishn

I found this mould in their store and we carried it out and fitted it onto a KC 520 in the position where the normal center console sits...it was a bit to wide at the bottom and it came up about 3 cm from the sides of the boat...nevertheless....I told them to cast it and fit it to my boat and then cut the console off at the bottom by 180 mm....this narrowed it at the bottom and when fitted and laminated onto the deck it gave about 100 mm clearance around the sides ( At the bottom ) and a lot more at the step as the console tapers upwards ) ....we then fitted a step from the console to the side of the boat about 180 mm from the deck...so when you go to the front of the boat you step over....the step is hollow underneath and this allows plenty of drainage in the event that you take a wave over the front.

The Supercat 620 was built exactly the same....

I also changed my plans and moved the fuel tanks to the front hatch ( in front of the console ) to get more weight to the front...

The back seat hatch is BIG...can take plenty of fish and you will notice that it is stepped up at the back....this is a freezer box ( totally insulated ) and you can put a LOT of bait in there...so much so that we also have a sealed tuppaware in the bait hatch to keep water and whatever cold...

The big door hatch that is under the console can take 6 fuel tanks, depending on what layout you want....so any BIGGER fish that cannot fit into the rear hatch go in there....but they would have to be a lot bigger as the rear hatch can take a cob of 30 kg easily......if push comes to shove I can move the fuel tanks back into the console and then the front hatch can take eg: Cob of 50 kg easily...with a bit of a curve..

I dont keep big cob....I release them as they are breeding stock...on the odd occassion or if I catch one and it is badly hooked in the gills etc...I will keep it as it will die....but I try and release as much as possible.

Hope that the explination on the console explains the layoit a bit better....

I am going to try and attach a pic that will show you the step on the side of the console...hope that it downloads.

There is a bucket standing on the step...it will give you an idea of how wide the step is.

Cheers.

Hi there to you guys...and thank you for the compliment on my new boat...it would of been a 28 footer...but SARS also buggered off with my money:::S he he he.

I rigged this boat out ( Had it specially built to my specs ) to make it as comfortable as possible....my fishing partner and I are both 62 years old....

I was going to name the boat " Old Fart " but I then realised that it is often a affirmitve action lady that answers your call to Port Control for permission to leave the harbour...I would of been taken to the CCMA...

Can you imagine...

Port Control...good morning...this is PEY 256 C - Old Fart asking permission to leave port.

Heibo...whaat you say...whaat yor boat name...

" Old Fart " Port Control....

" Eish " .....no not " Eish " Port Control.... " Old fart "

Heibo....what name is that for a boat....^^.. ( please let me go port control )

Ahh well...I at least still have a good sense of humour...

A lot of people think I am mad still buying deep sea boats at my age...but while I can I still want to enjoy myself....and catch a lot of fish.

Hope you guys get a refund from SARS and you can soon buy your own boat...

There is a company in Natal called Just Boats....they build a fantastic 14 ft 4 in cat...its called a Alley Cat...well priced and all quality...I had one and they are fantastic...it will surf launch 2 up with 2 x 30 HP motors.

Cheers,

Cliff ( Doublecab )...attached is a pic of the boat while it was still been built.

Hi Cliff,

I like the look of this boat.

I see you chose to fit the outboards to the standard transom and not outmounts.

I am quite keen to look at one of these rigs, I launch at Mapelane on the Zululand coast, I presently have 2 x Merc 60 4 stroke big foots on a 16ft cat, do you think they would be ok on this boat in the surf ?

You havent perhaps got a top down photo that shows your deck layout ?

Who built this boat for you ?

regards

guy

Hi,

Send me a email to my home mail address and I will then send you some pics of the Kamassi Craft with the Standard Center Console...it gives you a lot more space and will be more suited to Natal waters.

Outmounts are not suitable for beach launching thats why I went for the motor well transom version...it is MUCH stronger on any boat when you hit the beach hard.

The KC 520 is a seriously strong boat...and it has been designed for our terrible East cape waters ( Rough big seas )

I saw one like mine launch from the beach at Noordhoek last week with 10 guys on board...the skipper and 9 black Chokka ( Squid ) fishermen...he was ferrying them out to the Ckokka boats that were about 3 km off shore....that boat handled that load like you cannot believe...10 guys on a 17 ft boat.

My home mail address is

clifford.donaldson@gmail.com

I will also give you the contact details of the guys that build them here in PE

Cheers

Cliff greetings from Noordhoek, Western Cape:)

Boat is beaut. Can vouch for the toughness, tried my best to sink mine at Witsand:) No way!

I also have a one of a kind, had pressed deck fitted, sand flow coat and I never bonded. Looks awesome!

Bluflu has 2 Merc bigfoot 2 strokes on his KC and he reckons its got serious power with them on. From what i've heard the boat is light. Lovely deck layout on those boats and lots of space.

Just check with someone more experienced what the 4 strokes will be like for surf launches. Another member i spoke to told me that his buddy had to replace his 4 strokes with 2 strokes for launching out a river mouth as the 4's didnt have enough power.  I'm not so clued up but isnt a 60hp motor in a 2 or 4 stroke still 60hp of power? Why would a 4 stroke be less powerful?  Is it the hole shot of the 2 stroke that makes the diference?

Watch this vid. 150hp Etec 2 stroke in a tug of war with a 150hp Yamaha 4 stroke.

I am a 2 stroke man myself...always will be when it comes to outboard motors.

The run of the mill opinion is that 4 strokes have a lot of moving parts, timing chains etc etc and they are mostly only repaired by specialist trained outboard motor technicians with lap tops.

I also heard a whisper that the fuel injectors on 4 strokes are prone to packing up due to our poor fuel quality and they cost a bomb to replace...up to R 10 grand apiece....( thats what I have heard )

A 2 stroke fires every 2nd stroke ...the compression and firing stroke and the down stroke that releases exhaust gasses and sucks in fuel for the next compression / firing stroke...so normally your revs are more efficient and a lot quicker...thats why they say a two stroke is better at the hole shot when launching...it revs and delivers prop power more efficiently.

The e Tec does deliver awesome power...

Just go to the Port Elizabeth Deep Sea Angling club and you will see that a LOT of the big deep sea boats are fitted with E Tecs.

Cheers

Power / Weight ratio for the same power the 4 strokes is allways heavier.

I am a 4 stokes fan but you have to compensate the weight with more power but never seen anyone that changed to 4 strokes and misses the 2 strokes.....

I do not know your friends outboard model and brand with that info we could probably figure it down.

Hi Craig...if you are looking for Binnacle mounts for your controls...

Are you looking for the mounting moulding that the binnicle controls fit on...or the binnacle control box itself...

I take it you are looking for a dual binnacle control box

Phone Andrew...he may have a used one

His number is 082 659 0859...tell him you are a friend of mine ( Cliff Donaldson )

Cheers,
