My Lowrance's GPS thinks I'm in Swaziland not Moz...

I have a Lowrance DSI combo and on this weekend's trip to Moz it showed that I was in Swaziland (I was 10 k's offshore about 60k's up from Xai-Xai.) Any ideas on a "quickfix"?

Sounds like your "SET-UP" on your GPS is wrong.

Check at "setup" for which part of the world it is set, or write them down and post here and lets see if we can help.

Is it a new GPS you bought or have you had it for a while (used before)

Try reseting,if still check attena reading internal or exsternal and check if it is picking up all the satalite configuerations.

Select 'Return To Vessel', and that should have you sorted out.

Let me know if this was the problem.

Thanks

Tried the return to vessel option, didn't change anything. Elite-5 DSI doesn't seem to have the setup function that'l change anything meaningful... So, of I went to the National Boatshow in JHB. Lowrance's stall and a young lady tells me to bring it in as the "technical guy is here and he can look at it" went back the next day only to get told that I must send it to Durban as they can't get satelite comms in the Dome:X :fbash Felt like I was about to have a mild stroke so I left and will be sending it of to Durban as told...

All I can tell you is that the Background Chart on the Elite is VERY bad. And should not be used at all.

If you want a chart, then go for the East Coast Navionics - all problems will be solved.

Hey John, how ya doin'?

I compared the way points at home with my Garmin Nuvi's and it seems the Lowrance's is about 3km's away, when viewing the way-points as saved in Moz all seems well until you zoom in and all of a sudden they jump to Swaziland!

I don't really want to send the unit to Durban as I might be heading to Moz again in a week or two and then I'll need it...Price on the suggested chart?

Hi Barren,

Could you please go out to your boat, power it up, wait for it to Acquire Position, then take a waypoint and save the waypoint to card and then email me that waypoint?

Currently @ S25 49.748
E28 14.260

Underneath this it also gives the following: 5m 56deg T

The Moz co-ordinates: S25 05.673
E34 14.284

Sorry it took so long... do you know how cold it is here?

They both seem to be about 2km's out, would that be considered normal?
I'm sorry to pick your brain but it's slightly irritating to sit on the blue ocean and the GPS' background shows the same brown background as Pretoria would be...also very difficult for me to know for sure whether it's working properly and I don't want to get to Moz again and battle with a malfunctioning GPS.

2km!!!!!!

There is either something wrong with your installation, or your boat was in an underground parking. :)

Send photos of parking, location, installation etc.

You still need the Navionics charts though.

P.S - I still doubt that your unit is malfunctioning - 99.9999% of the time it is some form of #ID-10T Error.  ;)

Quite possible (Me being the responsible idjit) compare your Google earth result to where the boat is standing. No cover over it whatsoever - not even a T-Top.

Price of the Navionics chart?
