Hi guys

So my first attempt was a fail.

I went to somerset sport in Cape Gate and Marko kitted me out for Kob fishing.

I looked and asked around as much as possible.

I downloaded these spots to my GPS and tried spot #2 and #3:

I found them here:

Thanks!!!!!

I used this very nice guide for my bait:

I think my bait came out quite nice for a first attempt . . .

But alas. Not even one nibble :(

But I don't feel too bad. Driving back out I asked everyone I saw with a rod how the fishing's going not nobody had caught anything.

My wife's not complaining because she got a nice tan out of the 6 hours at the beach.

But now I need to know. In three weeks we're going to Witsand and I would REALLY like to catch and braai something. What fish should I try and catch there? Are there any nice spots anyone would recomend?

Please let me know ^^..

Thanks!!! t(((up((

you'll get a fish at witsand...

The west coast needs quite a few things to fall into place to get a edible fish.

Recently water temps of 9.8 degrees haven't been kind.

imagine fishing was as easy as downloading a few maps to spots and bait presentation...there would be no fun in it. Witsands you should get fish. just ensure you have the right baits. worm and prawn. there is alot more too fishing than people think. tip for False bay. watch the weather patterns and specially the SE wind.

Welcome to the world of fishing - remember , not every fishing day , is a catching day !  ( and we all have plenty of those too ! )

Also search under Sealine for `` bait presentations `` - very useful if you need a few tips .

Try to look for nice working water. Edible fish like to hide there from the predators. Just keep on learning and asking questions and also if u dont have a line in the water the fish wont be caught.

As a beginner - add some floatation to your hook before you add the bait - it gives you a good base to tie your bait onto.

Try taper the bait more and make the bait a little bit smaller.

But then again - when they're on the bite - that bait of yours would have been nailed.

As mentioned - look for the foaming water and for a bit of colour/colour lines. When i started i used to throw as far as possible into the still deep loking water - not many fish there.

Good luck and tight lines - aanhouer wen!

You will only fail, when you FAIL TO TRY !!
Keep plugging away, speak to and fish with the guys that know. Fishing with experienced anglers is the best way of learning fast. Make contact with some guys on Sealine and you will see what a difference it makes. You will meet some great okes and learn alot !!

Go fish !!

I have been fishing for 33 years and you learn something new everytime you go fishing!! Ask and steal with your eyes!! Oh, and another thing, NEVER GIVE UP!!
ITS CALLED FISHING, NOT CATCHING!!!

Hmmmm..a good kobbie bait needs plenty of smell and some loose bits flapping around also do wonders for vibration, but not 100% necassary.

Try using the belly of the pilchard and if you want to add w/mussel to that, use the stomach part as well as this has all the scent in it.

Try to elongate your bait a bit more and as someone said, go for a thinner cotton, that thick rubbery stuff is terrible.

Lastly buy some of those little orange corks and thread one just above your bait to give it some movement.
