My favourite spot

I just thought to post a pic of my favourite fishing spot for those unfortunate who have not visited the West Coast. Here i've caught cobbies, geelbek, hotties, a yellowtail, elf (shad) and even some "china" snoekies. Lately weve caught a couple of nice cow sharks (and let them go without injury !!). This is also the place for catching mullet (harders) for live bait.

There is even a nice piece of beach for mom to lie in the sun and the kiddies to play.

The deepest part of the bay is a little over 4m deep and in season there is plenty of crayfish.

On the flat rock on the rising tide and from the beach on the receding tide.
Jacobs bay is between Vredenburg and Saldanha. The turnoff is 6 km from Vredenburg and 6 km from Saldanha. From the turnoff its 6 km to Jacobsbay. There are other sites in the surrounding that is also good, like Swartriet for the Galjoen & Steenbra fans and Moerie-se-baai, where you get the best wonderwurm.

When fishing from the beach on the receding tide... Is that from the Hotel side or from where the picture was taken. 

Tried fishing from the flat rock there once using prawn (left overs from Langebaan), but got nothing more than sunburn. 

Have heard stories about the Cob and Elf there but apparently they feature with the North Westerly wind and rain on the way.  When going for the harders where about do you fish from, as I have been tempted to try with the fly rod.

I've tried the fly rod from the flat rock without success, maybe you'll be luckier. Although I've seen stumpnose coming out there, prawn is not the right bait. Chokka, sardien, bloodworm & makriel would be a better bet. Anywhere from the beach would do, especially where the boats go through the gap between the rocks.

I have seen the Harders in Moerie se Baai.  Some decent sized boys. But trying to get to them is a mission. 

Was out there about a month ago with the fishing ski.  Launched at Moerie se Baai.  It was just after the first big storm... Swell was pushing and the fishing was not good.  The Points around those areas look promising.  Kwaai baai also seems to hold some fish.  When we diving for crays in the summer we get to see a hottie every now and then.  

The other smaller bays around the old crayfish factory area, are they worth trying?  Seem to loose a lot of tackle on the rocky bottom.

Some nice Galjoen & hottie spots around there. Once caught a 2kg hottie on a 5/0 hook with sardien belly. Was going for a cobbie & hottie decided this dinner was his.
