I woke up early the Saterday morning at about 4:30 am, got out of my bed, dressed for sucses and got all my fishing gear together, and waited for a friend to pick me up. On our way to Heralds Bay we only talked about the big one thats not gonna get away!! We arrived at about 5:00 am and saw the calm ocean from a high view. Its my first time here, he did warn me of the long steep walk to get to the rocks, but all that matterd was to go fishing! On our way down I saw a few crosses with flowers, and was told of how many people died here! We finaly arrived at the fishing spot, Thight lines from now on! At about 6 am my friend got the first Bronzie!! About 8kg. I was feeling very unlucky for a while, and on my way to make my third cast at about 10 am, I'm walking towards the edge to cast as far as possible, Suddenly my left ancle bends like its not supose to, here I go....!! Not off the edge though!!! but straight down, slambed my rod on the rocks ect. I staid on the ground a while before attempting to cast again, but at the end Ive done it. Finaly at 2 pm my reel is actualy screaming!!!! I'm fighting, Feels BIG!! After a very long 15 min I couldnt go on, my back hurts, oouuchh!! My ancle was swollen twice its size!! I gave my rod to Jacques, he could help to get the fish out on the rocks, Johan has got the gaff!! 5 meter Gaff!! Otherwise its impossible to land a fish there. He lands it!!! 19 kgs Eagle Ray!!! I know its not the biggest, but I think anyone would be proud to land this beautiful fish if its their first big one! The walk back up was alot worse then coming down though!
