Met a guy with a beachmaster last week looks like a very nice rod !! any comments on the assassin rods ????

good rods, but there have been some complaints about the rods (especially the beachmaster and the blade) that are breaking (not on the cast, but when pulling a fish over a lip ) wich would not be much of a problem seeing that you will only be targeting edibles

it is a very nice for edibles seeing that is a 5 piece and that it has 3 tips (light, medium, heavy). with the light tip and a 5 once i can easily cas behind the backline and with the heavy tip i prefer using 6 ounce with a lekka chokka (my favourite bait).

if i were you i wouldnt hesitate at having a look at the poseidon 5 seeing that it is very affordable and has alot of guts!

however i am a big sharker and prefer fishing for sharks and i then find the rod to be very "soft/pap" cause i struggle throwing an 8 ounce with it, otherwise it is a great rod

the rod is a 14 foot, 100% graphite rod, and comes with a cloth and a rod tube

i got mine for around R1200-R1300 wich is a alright price. id rather go for this than the beachmaster cause i have heard alot of crap from basil mannings customer service when it comes to broken or damaged assassins

just try to get the name assassin out of your head (and the price) and you will realise that the poseidon and beachmaster are almost identical

i personally dont think that the poseidon and the sl 30 will be overkill or unbalanced. i think they will fit nicely

Howdi Guys,

Your reel and rod have to match to reach that last wave. My uncle uses a poseidon 5 with his SL30SH. Not a bad match. But if you want something better .......

I use my 400/3 with my SL30SHV. Now that's magic. The rod is in my opinion perfectly designed. It is stiff enough even with a 6 oz. It is much lighter than a poseidon. I used to fish with a SL50SH on that rod and after using my SL30SHV have never turn back. The 30 is a more managable reel for edibles and i found you don't have to push it to reach the distance. It just GLIDES beautifully. A match made in heaven.

Here's a tip. When choosing a rod, it should have a balance between flexibility and stiffness. This happy medium is very important to get distance. But here's the twist, last week i went to Bazils and found their 400/3's now are very different to mine which i purchased from them about 9 years ago. I had a look at their range and must say my 400/3 feels like their 400/6. So that's not much help but remember the bold type and you should be fine. I prefer mine a tad more towards the stiff side to be safe.

So i hope this is of some help to you.;)

Happy shopping:fishn

:p Thanx harry ur info greatlY appreciated.Your rod 400/3 is it a blank and what does the 400/3 stand for ? :doh

It is a straight piece. I prefer it that way.

The "400" is the model or series. The different strokes refer to the tip weights. i.e

400/1, 400/2, 400/3 etc.

The codes for the blanks works like this, example "Purglas 400/3" the first number refers to the length of the blank i.e 400cm and the second number "/3" to its intended casting weight. You can multiply this last number by two as a general rule of thumb to get the designed casting weight and in this case a 400/3 should handle 6oz perfectly but you can also use a 5 or a 7oz.

Blue Marlin made the codes easier, the last number is the designed casting weight, so for a 6 oz sinker you would buy a 400/6. To confuse the whole matter even further, they will put the total rod length on the factory built rods instead of the blank length, so now you are looking at a 430/6 rod which is actually built on a 400/6 blank. But they do not stop there, they also have 3+1, 5+1, and 7+1 blanks, the "+1" refers to an extra layer of carbon wrapped on the blank.

Guys,

What do you think of the Kingfisher Stimulator XXH 13ft matched to the SL30 - thats the outfit I use for eds & scratching, and it suits me fine except you are confined to throwing lighter weights 3-5oz.

I found the Poseidon a bit heavy for the SL30, so I use the Poseidon with a Grandwave 50 and that is also a nicely balanced rig.

BTW, I agree 100% with Harry about how the SL30 "just glides" - a beautiful little casting reel and also one of the smoothest drags I've ever known.  My No. 1 favourite for medium tackle.

Just my 2c

On a separate but related note, the SL30 is also a nice light boat reel - I use it for casting plugs, poppers and spoons on shallow reefs - I used to use it with a KF Poseidon Offshore Cuta Rod, but now I have changed to the Elbe Cuda Pro as I feel that is a much better rod.

I even use my SL30 for light trolling - got this 14kg Wahoo earlier this year on my SL30 with KFGA 0.30mm while trolling a Halco Laser Pro - I love that little reel!
