Mkambati - advice??

Hi Emperor
I fished there approx 5 years ago. Was booked in at Gwe Gwe. There is a massive rock platform in front of Gwe Gwe. You will be fishing deep water - ideal for sliding. Slightly to the right of Gwe Gwe is a small bay - good place to target edibles.
To the north of Gwe Gwe is The Waterfall. You will be fishing in a deep channel / mouth. Good for edibles
From the Waterfall you can walk southwards, there are a number of little gulleys to target edibles.
To the South of Gwe Gwe, is the Msikhaba Island which i am sure you might have heard / read of. I personally have not fished Msikhaba island.
The bait most suitable for edibles will be crayfish, pink prawn, cracker, chokker, sardine, mussels. Hook size will depend on what you will be targeting. I found that a 2/0 - 3/0 worked best. Target species now will be copper bream, brusher and galjoen if you are lucky.
Please carry a lot of sinkers. I lost a lot of sinkers at Mkhambati due to the rocky terrain. Try the pulley rig, I think it will work wonders.

Lucky you, have fished both sides of the river and all i can say is wow. There are plenty Rock cod on both sides but be warned lots of lost tackle per fish thats for sure. On the island the best place to fish is the flat rocks in the front, caught some good eds in that area,also Hamlins is a great place to slide( slide on and hang on)also the beach at the mouth gives up some good kob and pig nose in the evening.

Yes Emperor, That is Gwe Gwe. Note the flat rocks in the front, slightly to the right. Just be careful on a spring high tide. The water washes over. Try and post a google image of the Waterfall and Msikhaba Island. It would be of interest.
I forgot to mention that there is another spot called Shelly Beach within the Msikhaba Reserve. Again to target mainly edibles.

Emperor, I have fished there plenty(actually the only place I have ever fished in the Transkei). You must have a long gaff to fish in the front, it can good for cob at night - very good to slide and I have seen a few big hammers being caught there but it can be quite dangerous.
The shad can come really thick in the bay but is better on the north side, there is also a good gully there - you can see it in the pic. Fish the little river(in pic.) with small dropshot, the last time I was there there were plenty juvenile kingies.
I really enjoyed fishing at the Msikaba river when the sea was blown out - we got some good rock salmon by casting live mullet and whole sards over to the boulders on the south bank and I am shure dropshot will also work well there.
On the north bank a little up river there is a low rock ledge and depending on how deep it is can be very good for edibles - caught biggish shad and saw a couple of nice garrick come out here on the springs.
