Where did you guys fish? Octopus is the most leathal bait for Red Stumpnose (Miss Lucy). I caught one close on 4kg's out at Evans Peak in February.

They are awesome fighters, also had great success on occie leg.caught off Mosselbay,tagged and released.

I've been trying for Red stumps all over false bay for years now and only ever managed a few small ones. Started fishing a bit further up the coast last year and caught my pb red stump of 3.8kg a few months back on 6kg line in our inshore league! I usually release them but for the league I kept this one and tagged and released a few 1 to 2.5kg fish! Have to say it's one of my favorite eating fish now and I have never been a fan of the taste of a red fish!

Strange thing is we very seldom find them in false bay and last year we came across a school of small ones, caught and released 9 from this size up to 30cm quick quick! Been back to the same spot a good few times since then and have not caught a single fish more!

One of 2 caught yesterday in about 35m of water on occie leg...Needless to say they box proper on light braid.One was a recapture from last year,this time caught at a different reef about 5km away from where it was caught the previous year.Both released to fight another day.Sharks kept hassling us when we stayed a bit long at a spot,so we had to keep moving.The fishing on these far out reefs are definitely better this year than last,it pays to catch and release.Loads of juvenile Red Steenbras which I was glad to see,with the occasional reaaly big Roman in between.The one thing that has been scarce are Kob,definitely not in the same numbers as the year before.Livebait went untouched wherever we went,with the exception of the sharks nailing them on the way up.
