Mercury 30 HP Beep at startup

I have a 97 model 30hp mercury 2 stroke motor with quicksilver controlbox.

I had a problem with the oil level low buzzer sounding when i turn the keyswitch on but that was a legitimate warning as the oil level switch was stuck.

Now if i turn the keyswitch there is no beep from the buzzer.

My question now is should the buzzer not give a short beep when i turn the keyswitch to indicate that its in working order?

My google searches so far came up with many yes and no's.

I had a similar problem with one of my 60 mercuries I used to have on my boat, the problem was later found by my mechanic which was a faulty buzzer in the control box.
