Hi Guys,

Fished Melkbaai on Saturday night from about 22h00, we were two guys, with a third who joined later, at about 1h30 or so our fishing bags were stolen, and we were hardly 50 metres away!

Two bags were stolen, an Intel and a brown small fishing bag, had lots of tackle and permits in it.

If you guys hear anything, or someone tries to sell , let me know, AND be careful.

contents of bags were daichi.mustad hooks, blue trace bags, small containers, floro double x line(2 x 50m rolls) new fishing pliers and lots of odd and ends.

Regards

Jaweed

This is really sad news, since Melkbaai was traditionally a safe place to fish....day or night ! I hope the culprits get caught and dealt with soon !
Sorry about your loss bru ! This just serve to caution us all to be alert at all times and places !

Hiya Jaweed,

Not great news!

I find it amazing that a popular way to fish beaches these days is to have your back to the surf and rod over your shoulder.

In the old days it was a BIG no no to turn your back to the sea...today the GREATER danger comes from land!

I agree.learned that from bluewaterbay. Always watch your stuff. If i go with someone i always remind them while i cast or fight to check the tackle bags.

Even when i fished alone,PS i normally fish for sharks.I had my tackle bag ready to go onto my shoulders if i got a huge pick up. Left the inexpensive stuff if moved off but phones keys and wallet go with me.

Sorry to hear that Jaweed. Melkbaai is generally a safe spot. On another note - I must be rather fortunate since I was also planning to fish this weekend, but someone didnt bother informing me - not even a phone call to cancel our planned Sunday morning trip and invite me along to Melkbaai instead. Probably also using the moonshine worm that I donated. Ouch!!! Im tossing out with you!!!

Reading the replies has again re-affirmed that the geniune Fisherman are a close knit bunch......

Never laughed as much as I did on Sunday, was just hard to believe that 15min ago our bags were there and then gone with not so much as a glimmer of life on the beach !!! So ya, I thought I heard all the stories before but until something like this happens to you, your whole mindset changes.....be carefull out there

Having said that.....where to this week-end bru?:fishn

Sorry to hear that, it is sad that we now have to start watching our backs. It just shows that you or your items are not safe anywhere nowadays. Karma has a way of coming back to those who help their greedy hands other people's items.

Tell us more or less the site location, you just said Melkbaai, I'm from the area, will have to keep my eyes open...

Envor,

we were fishing at the fence, in the corner, that is where you come into strand, park your car at service station and walk over dunes.

Hi, Jaweed, I have never tried to angle that spot, there is always a few characters between the last block of toilets / tube & the fence, they sleep under those last bushes / toilets,  I will suggest that you guys rather keep your tackle with you, if it was the spot in front of the old 'Springbok Cafe area', there is always 'car gaurds' infront of the Bens Restaurant,  have you manage to catch anything...
