mealies and peanuts for bait

Hi guys

Please tell me if any of you have tried this before..on the weekend I was speakig to another angler about dam fishing... He told me that the bait he only uses is plain mealies and peanuts...what he does is he buys plain mealies at a fishing shop and raw peanuts( not salted) puts it together in the pot and boils the mealies and peanuts togther for 2 hours the night before fishing.. Let's it stand over night in water in the pot....once at the water he has a mincer... Minces it up and puts it on the bomp spring as well as both hooks...he says it works wonders for him and that this is all he uses to fish with... I would like to please find out if any of u guys have tried this and if it has worked??

Also I would like to find out is rus n bietjie a good spot for big carp? I am looking to catch big carp and barbel any suggestions where I can try?

Your help is appreciated

Peanuts and maize works very well. BUT it must be prepared properly, you must soak and boil them
Peanuts have a enzyme that is very dangerous for carp, you must boil it for at least 1hour after soaking for 12 hours, to kill the enzyme

Hey guys

Thanks for the info... And ye I do boil it for 2 hours and let it stand over night in water to get rid of the enzyme...

Thought I'd let you know that mealies and peanuts do work really well... Went to the dam for the day and tried it out and caught 8 carp decent size and 2 barbel off the mealies and peanuts... Very surprised 2 catch barbel off mealies and peanuts...

Try it out next time

To be honest, it seems like n lot of effort to catch the same size fish we do using plain Supercast feed or any other store baught feed and floaties, dough or most mielies on the market. The Vaal has so much fish, its just a matter of having bait in the water. Joins for the social we are arranging. Lots to discuss and learn from each other.
