I have been assured that all relevant mails will be referred to the Deputy Director of Compliance, who will follow them up with Law Enforcement....

Guys just a bit of advice... all generalized complaints and moans will probably go straight to the shredder. What they need is factual evidence.

For example: When, where, photos, GPS co-ords... etc etc.

Wonderful News.

As Reefman said. Carry a digital camera. Make sure it is programmed with date and time. If you come across illegal activity, take a photo. In your report to MCM make sure you reflect all info as a CSI would. Then we will get results.(Do not be scared of taking photo's of boats reg's or vehicle reg's.)

Remember this is all our resource. It is up to us to look after it.

Great stuff guys, please make use of this and follow up on your complaints/reports. Reefman, perhaps we could get MCM to post a brief report at intervals on how they dealt with these issues?

:? On 10 June I sent them the following mail after reading this post;

"Hi MCM,

What telephone number can I use to report any form of poaching or transgressions of the fishing regulations around Cape Town?

Thank you"

To which I received a reply on the 11th as follows;

"Good day,

Our Tip-Off line number is 0800 116 110

Thank you."

Then I proceeded to phone that number and got a voice mail telling me to leave my "tip off"

I have phoned them, as well as Parks board, a number of times in the past to report incidents, to telephone numbers supplied by them but you seldom achieve the required results.

So I sent them another mail as follows on 12 June;

"Good morning,

I have in recent months 3 times had occasion to report people fishing in MPA's and spearfishing from boats in TMNP near Cape Point.    I notice that the phone number you provide is an electronic message system and I must unfortunately question if such a system will be suitable for the immediate action that would be required when an unlawful event is in progress.]

Please comment.

Thank you."

I am still awaiting a further response.   The issue was addressed in a positive way, I am not really trying to belittle them, but the problem is reel.   I fish nearly every day and quite often see things that I want to report, but when you phone someone, they are not available, the number has changed or whatever and nothing happens.

I am still hopeful that I will receive a reply.

I mailed Marthinus Van Schalkwyks office directly with my complaint about poaching of bloodworm at Sunrise beach (false bay). I received a reply from them 2 days later saying they had passed it on to MCM. Today I received my first contact from MCM saying that they had the info and are preparing an operation for that area. The gentleman I spoke to was extremely helpful and gave me both his office and cell number so that I can contact him any time to check on progress of the operation. I for one am happy that things have gone this far. I do not want to praise them yet though as I am very keen to see the effects of this "operation"!
I say give them our support and keep sending the info so that there is no excuse from their side for lack of support!

Aan hou is wen!!!
