Went down to Mazeppa with the whole family this weekend, me and my boet Rich_ST-Francis, went with the sole purpose of fishing. well we stocked up on bait and tried pretty hard to no avail, saw only 2 kob and a few bream and blacktail come out, and there were lots of people fishing with no luck. first day we met up with a great indian chap from east london, such a helpful oke, if you're on sealine thanks so much, went to shark point and got the first and only pull in a few minutes but it chowed the bottom of the mackerel and let me keep the head. second day i landed a 47cm garrick off the island. ONLY fish for 8 days at mazeppa . my boet got one pull on the last afternoon,but got burnt off, while i was sorting out an overwind which after 2 hours some chaps from durban came to the point and swapped me some sinkers for new line. mine was finished and i was able to cut off( what nice guys, if you okes are on sealine shot for the line and the help) . fished with them into the evening and the one guy hooked a huge shark but was later reefed. fish came on the bite the day we left clearly. there was a big group of baitfish trapped next to the island 2 days before we left and you could see the garrick and shad in each wave that came up but they would not take kures or bait or sardines fished as lures. NOTHING, was rather frustrating. but all in all was an awesome trip what a beautiful place. planning another trip soonish.

any indication of where ya stayed and what it costs to Kick up one's Feet and flip the top off a beer there ?
I Have Never Been there , as it's a Long way to drive to Blank , but If you would be so Kind , even a pm would Be great .

Don't Worry too Much about seasonal costs etc - just a rough break down .

Same this Side Man , i hooked into a single fish , and the Water has been coming on strong this side , and for some reason , the Luck Pot Dried up ......

What a bummer...sound like our trip two weeks before Easter.

One Blackfin caught by the youngster and the rest of the time we simply fed the crabs...Always next time!

hahahahaha i wish that was mercurochrome, two and a half weeks and the cuts havent closed fully yet, those rocks are dangerous.

Ja Trophy i'd read the front of the island was rather dangerous but after no luck elsewhere i decided to risk it and give the front a bash. Stuck to the high rocks on shark point the rest of the trip.

I worked with a guy who lost his Dad at the boiling pot. No fish is worth risking your life.

I always check where the rocks are wet and keep at least 5m behind that line.

Apart from the toothy critters living there, there are serious ocean currents to contend with there.

That gulley is a great place to land a fish as the reef in front locks it in once you get it over. Glad it wasn't to serious and you managed to retain all your tackle.

Better luck with the fish next time.

Def - the area is either cooking hot or dead. Like Noweeds recommends one needs to take at least a 7-10 day trip and sometimes you might only get a single bumper fishng day but man when it's on it's on.

June can be good but if the Sards are to far off shore it's like fishing in a vacuum

July and the sards have moved further North and the shad, garrick and winter sharks are thick - morning Raggies and Bronzies in daylight.

Seems Sep-Oct is the best time of the year for the Bronzies, Raggies and Zambies with the Blacktips moving in in November through to April and the bronzies still around on deep reefs, only moving in when water is optimum

Aug-early October is time for Garrick and big Steamers and Nov to Feb with the right water a good time for the Kob

hey Kumz will scratch around and look for some more pics of mazeppa, haha ja jogs the memory when you look at it, wont be going back anytime soon, helped at a hectic acccident on the way home and saw 4 others. If i had a driver willing to do the road id be back in a flash but all the licensed ones in my family are bang of that trip now.
