Hiya Guys,
Well my long awaited trip to Mazeppa has come and gone!
Sorry to say, but this will not be a very long and exciting post as King Neptue did not play his part on the whole deal! Everthing went according to plan and after a 6.5 hour drive (road from Butterworth to the bay is very very poor) we rounded the bend into Mazeppa to see huge seas and strong East winds. BUMMER!
No fishing on Thu and reports from the guys that had fished earlier in the day were not great. Friday morning we had no wind but still big seas. The under currents were very strong making for difficult fishing. To make matters worse the dreaded crabs were out in FULL force and demolished every bait presented within 15 min. Leave a Yellowtail head in for 30 min and all you got back was pure bone or NOTHING! No Fish on Friday and in the afternoon strong East winds picked up again...this was to become a daily event.
Sat saw us at Shark Point with less swell, but still strong undercurrents. Slide baits and 10oz sinkers drifting about 100 degrees in 15 - 20 min...who knows what would have happened if we got a pick up as the rigs came out tangled and mangled. Fed the crabs a few hundred bucks of yellowtail as we rebaited every 20min throughout the day. On the Island for the afternoon session where even live baits and occies were demolished in minutes. Wind pushed us off the island early afternoon.
Sun back to Shark Point conditions now much better with almost no current, but still large swells. First casts saw Albatross Jnr go tight on a good fish. Some nice jumps and cartwheels confirmed that he had a good sized Blackfin on the line. 30min later Albatross Snr and I managed to land the fish in the gulley to the RHS. Got some nice pics and returned the fish. Getting back to the rods I notice that my reel was about three winds away from the braid with no fish attached! That was to be my only pick up the entire trip! Sh!t! Back to the Island for an afternoon session where there were about 15 rods and no takers. The East wind came through and pushed us off around 4 pm!
Mon I made a last ditch effort and fished the Island first there were about 20 lines and no takers. I met Edly (Spelling) our friend from the OFS and shared a few great stories and some laughs before 10am came far to quickly and it was time to leave back to PE.
SOme of the guys were staying the week till Sat...I hope conditions and the fish improve so the next shift manage to take revenge!

- that a classic pic! See the covers were off so no protection used! In this day and age! You should know better! Then again, we all TRUST our Shimanos so that kind of action is acceptable..
