Hi guys, been on sealine for a while now and must say thanks for all the tips and advise I've gathered from it.
Now I have tell you about Mapelane, I took the Misses and my Daughter on a camping weekend over easter and although the conditions weren't favorble for fishing did some early morning drop shotting in the estuarie anyway and didn't have a dull moment. Durning the two mornings that I fished managed to bring in 3 Big eye Kingies, smallest a few grams to +/- 1,5kg, 1 kob +/- 1 kg, 2 flatheads, a couple of thornfish and 1 Malabar Rockcod, plus plenty of hits. All released so you guys can have a go. Wished I could have done more fishing and explored the coast line a bit but it was family time and wouldn't have heard the end of it.
I defernaitly will be back with the mates and go all out:breakd:
Oh yes sorry there no photos, didn't take the camera to the beach with me but next time.

Kewl Seadog! What lures did you use and whereabouts did you try? How close did you fish to the mouth of the river?

picked up the kingies about 30m in from the river mouth on Berkley's 3" Chartreuse Shad, with a fast retrieve, had plenty of hits and they didn't last long (lots of tails missing and only had one packet!)nothing else was working so went onto my pink bucktail jig, and caught the flathead's in the same spot, both just as my jig hit the bottom and I started the retrieval. The Kob and rockcod I caught all the way up the estuary along the beach, just before the campsite. both caught on bucktail jig slow bouncing retrieve.Thornfish caught at all the above with all the above!! Also not really worth mentioning but still fun picked up a few Wave Garrick (very small) just left of the bay in a channel on the bucktail, fast retrieve! Was hoping for a decent kingie but none around.
Like I said it was a family get away so didn't arrive there "kitted out". next time for sure!!

Both mornings I fished at high tide and until about 2 hours after, the place I was at the current wasn't too strong and there was a nice deep channel, I casted onto the sand bank in the middle of the estuary and did have to retrieve slightly up stream, the current was pumping in the river mouth, tried there but your jig would land up on the sand bank in no time!!

Tight lines....
