Die tweede aand was n ander storie en hak ons sommer gou 2 babers voor die donker val. 4kg en 8kg onderskeidelik en roei ons gou weer twee koppe in. Daar begin dit toe so stadige optel en weg swem ek sit toe maak die ankers in en so begin die sports die meisie se 6voet stok en iets met gewig aan die ander kant. Na 45min land sy die 11.4kg op haar dropshot stokkie.

Net so voor 12 die aand begin my lyn stadig weg swem en stop so 4keer maar baie stadig katrol tik tik tik net so na n baie lang stil ruk begin dit weer ek se toe maar vir my meisie almal het al gaan slaap ek gaan hom maar kap en kyk wat gebeur as hy hom spoeg is dit ook reg. Toe ek kap slaan daai hoekke in en ek voel hier is groot moeilikheid aan die ander kant van die lyn. Stok buig tot in die bud voel of ek tuna vang hy vat net lyn ek stel drag amper op die limiet van my lyn en so begin ek lyn terug wen na 30min se baklei kom hy kant toe maar hy is swaar soos ek katrol buig die 9voet drop shot stok steeds hele stok. So 20tree van die kant af begin ek hom sien hy is groot my grootste nog (4kg karp kop as aas)... Sy bring vir my die skep net en ek begin so lank reg maak om hom te land en daar draai hy ek klou aan die stok en my lyn breek toe ek die lyn van nader bekyk sien ek hy het my hele strop in gesluk en my 15pond lyn deur geskuur met die baklei. Hy spook nou nog by my! Maar ek hak toe maar n vars kop en loop maar in en gooi so ver ek kan nie dat mens afstand kan kry met n 2kg karp kop en n 9voet stok nie. Sit hom op die stand met n alarm so 3uur die oggend word my meisie wakker en vra het ek al die stok gehoor en ek se nee maar ek sal gaan kyk kom buite die tent. Stand is onderste bo my stok le in die water en hak aan n graspol tel hom op en begin katrol na so 20min haal ek n 10kg baber uit amper was ek my stok kweit. Dit was n baie lekker tyd en sal dit enige tyd weer doen!

Nice, did you fish Bloemhof Dam, or the river?

Thanx JFS. The reason Im asking is because I was wondering if there are any venues around Makwassie/Wolmaransstad, or East of them, on the river where one can fish that are open to the public. Id really like visit the area sometime and see what it holds. Read about a place in Leeeudoringstad (I think)...maybe that will be a good start....mmmm

I had a motor failure and it crashed on an island in the river, luckily not in the water. I will have to replace all 4 motors and the shell because the motors overheated and melted the plastic body/shell. Replacement parts cost me R4750, but nobody said its a cheap hobby.

Thanx for the link, and the video....bummer about the motor failure. There doesn't seem to be alot of fishable space on the bank, or did I miss it in the video? Nevertheless it must be a good venue Im sure. Let us know how it goes this weekend, I'd like to know what the Carp fishing is like as well

I'm attaching a few photos to show the different river conditions, there's places for every kind of fishing technique you want to do. However, you are better off going to Sandveld Nature Reserve if Carp is your main target.
The banks are steep, but that is how it is at the river. The camp sites are numbered and far apart, so you have privacy and cannot even see your neighbour.

You can't see the camp areas, because of the large trees hiding them from view. Some areas even look tropical, but the reserve makes clearings where you can camp.
The part in the video is very rocky and ideal for yellow fish and barbel. When I swam over to the island to get my copter back I crossed paths with some sizeable barbel and that is why I can't resist going back this weekend.

Crossed paths with some big cats you say....I have no doubt.....the water looks wild so they are surely thriving.....as for the Carp...I would still give it a go the conventional way and see, Im sure there are some beauties swimming.
