Macassar

Having relocated from the Eastern Cape, I fished Macassar for the first time last week. Caught a few kob, but only 1 keeper, as well as a nice blacktail (1,6kg). Also hooked into a spotted gully shark of about 23-25kg. Water was a good colour with some action in it, however, Sunday saw it gin clear with no waves. Flat as the Vaal Dam on a windless day. Not a bite.

Slid a few big baits, but no bronzies. Where do you get these along the False Bay coast?

At least now I have found a place to fish. Hoping to hook into a 100kg+ bronzie soon.

Hey Copper.

Good to hear you got some fish at Macassar. Just be careful security wise, would travel down there on my own in the week. Always try and get a partner to tag along!

But if you are looking for a nice bronzi, try Strandfontein, or places like the Strandfontein lower road. If you dont know the area all that well, ill be going down on sat for sure if you are looking to tag up.

Thanks Marine
Went down there with my dad who visited from Kei Mouth.
Quite a few people fishing there.

Would love to tag along and get to know this part of the coast better. Will let you know.

Copper best bet is to look for some colour in the water , the bronsies are " full up " along the coast now,the tide is becoming lekka at the moment later afternoon high , so get your slide in 2 hours before high.If you have a bakkie try Arendse rd also. But best bet is to look for company to go with You.The police has been patroling like crazy the past few weeks , which is great.

Thanx Klipvis. Only problem is I have absolutely no idea where arendse is.
When I was fishing Macassar, I did see the police about once every half hour on either their quads or in the bakkie.
How's wolfgat? From Macassar to Muizenberg, you first get the big parking area where a lot of fishermen are, then about 1km further, a small parking area with the turn off at the Wolgat Nature Reserve sign.
This looks quite nice, with some deep water.

@ Copper,

Pm Ash, he also relocated from East London about a year ago and we fish together. He has since joined a club too. Im sure it will be fine if you want to tag along some time.

Just heed Marine's warning re: safety, Im originally from Mitchells Plain but I wont even fish Macassar unless we a group of minimum 5 guys!

Cheers

The original post was made in 2008.

There is still fish, but this topic won't be able to help with where they are today.
