Lure fishing around Fish Hoek

I moved back to Fish Hoek recently after having grown up here. Previously never fished but started at the beginning of this year. I don't have the patience to fish with bait but do really enjoy fishing with lures. Unfortunately I have not had much luck though, except for squid. I'm getting to the point now where I really want to catch fish and I'm hoping the knowledgeable folks on here can give me some pointers.

What kind of lures have worked well for you and where would you fish them?
Are there specific colours that you have found most effective? Specific techniques?

Really any advice you can give me will be grealty appreciated. I have been struggling to make friends with any local anglers so I always fish alone, so safe spot recommendations will be awesome, but at this stage I am willing to start taking some risks.

Thank you in advance

You have to wait for the yellowtail and katonkel to return bud...Summer conditions, lots of south east winds push them into the bay and into casting range..Plugs, Wayne Stanley plugs, white 2oz for cape fish, 4/0 to 5/0 mustad trebles, pink and green plugs too. Get some tin spoons, secret 70, abu lucas mold and 2.5 oz keel spinner for closer casting and slower retrieve...You'll get them in fish hoek bay occasionally, and off the rocks between glencairn and fish hoek, and simonstown etc..If you have transport, there are spots further south..then you get a wild card for the year. Ignore the grumpy locals, they grump everyone, don't take it personally.

Thanks for your response and advice Dr H! I will start looking into the tackle you have recommended so I am prepared for when summer arrives, and also look at picking up that wildcard. I'm not too concerned with grumpy locals, I do a lot of work with software developers so I am immune to grumpy people.
I am familiar with spots between FH and Glencairn but not so much in simonstown. I know these things are closely guarded, but any chance you would be willing to share some areas in Simonstown that are good?
