LOWRANCE SERVICE

I purchased a 527 fishfinder gps combo last October with my boat. It overheated 3 time and the screen got so hot it burned my fingers. Without going into a long and complicated story, I had no joy with the boatdealer, nor with the salesman that subsequently left and promised to sort out my problem.

I contacted Lowrance directly and they asked me to send the unit to them. They replaced it no questions asked! Problem solved and ready for the holiday. So Lowrance, and Wayne in particular, a big thank you. This is fantastic service ::respekt: !!!!

This is how I have come to know Lowrance SA. It's people like Liz, Silan, Brad and Wayne that make the difference.       ::S    :first

Sorry to hear about the boatdealer.:( Such a pity when there is a weak-link between the customer and the distributor.

Lowrance SA are a huge step above most SA companies when it comes to service... long before they were sponsors of ours I had a unit on my old boat that had a dicky screen and I took it in and got a brand new replacement! I have been sold on Lowrance since that day!

Strange how we can deal with the same supplier and come away with such different experiences. I went to visit Lowrance once. Never again.

My one and only interaction with Lowrance was no big deal really and I didn’t want to get into a big discussion over my perceptions with them then, nor do I wish to do so now. Just mentioning how we all sometimes perceve things differently and this thread was posted just as I am busy searching for a new chart plotter so I thought I would reply.

The boat I bought came fitted with a GPS that had certain of the marine charts loaded. I admit it was an older unit but it worked well and of course whilst playing, as I always tend to do, I managed to “loose” the charts. GPS still worked fine – charts missing.

I phoned and made an appointment to see Lowrance (I made an appointment as I was told there was only one person who could help with this problem and I wanted to be sure they were there when I visited) as I was sure that they could help me reload the charts. I had the charts on disc, I had the interface cables. I just needed some direction on how to achieve the upload.

It was clear within a minute that if I was not visiting Lowrance to “Upgrade” my GPS to a new unit, they would not be interested in helping me. They were not even prepared to plug the unit into their computer, using my cable and disc, so that I could just demonstrate my problem.

As I had just recently bought the boat and simply could not afford an upgrade at that time I left with the “faulty” unit and my perception of Lowrance a little tainted. I figured that so long as the GPS worked, that’s all I needed at that time – the charts were just “nice-to-have”

Google is a wonderful tool and it didn’t take too long for me to find the information I needed on the internet. (Had to buy some "interface" software to get the computer and GPS talking). The GPS and reloaded Charts served for many more years. I have never, and will never, visit Lowrance again.

Sorry to hear that! Not acceptable at all, if it's their product they MUST help you. Can you tell me when this happened and what unit you have? It will also help if you can tell who you dealt with. I will forward your complaint to Seelan to ensure it never happens to another customer.
Glad you came right though.

Tight lines!

Will Lawrence SA have anything to do with units that were bought in the US?  I bought a HDS-5 off eBay for about 1/3rd the price they go for locally.

No,  units are supported in the country of purchase. But these things seldom give hassles, besides if it breaks it only cost you 1/3rd, you can buy 2 more.::S

Thats right........lowrance units( according to the booklet) carry a 1 year manufacturer gurantee, but in SA Lowrance offers 3 year.........probably why its 3x the price. I think the extra bucks is worth the Gt.
