Looking for venue for first sea launch on Jetski.

Greetings Pajero Mad!

No hijacking,all input from other members is highly valued!I do have CAT E skippers ticket(protected launches only).I wouldnt even consider taking a chance without one!Hopefully I will get away without surf launch endorsement,we will have to see what happens??Might have to buy someone lunch ;-).

We would hate to show down the skiboaters at a comp by outfishing them now wouldnt we!They sound like a seriously threatened species,judging by that SADSA officials comment!

1.For me it is not about a show of wealth,but rather a practical way of executing my passion for the sport and an expression of self reliance and freedom!

2.If it wasnt for my work commitments in Gotham,I would be living at the coast,only with a jet ski(wife and dogs included)!

3.Crew is nothing more than an aggravation!

4.My rig cost me R60k and is comfortably suficcient!Am not comparing !@#$ size!

This is also why I belong to club isolation!Club politics really gets up my nose!

Tell me,PM,do you jet out to Protea banks or do you hug the coastline when you launch at Shelley?

Hi All

Don't spend enough on our rigs ??  And that came out of the mouth of a senior SADSAA official ?  Was that before she hit the bar or during her official address to the club ?

I have the solution to deciding who is to win any comp .On the entry form include a line where you must fill in the cost of your rig. Most bucks = Winner !!!   . Then we can all save time and stay in the bar sipping margarhitas, instead of feeding the fish.

Anyway just to let her know that after I bought my STX15 F @ R 120K, I stripped it down and fitted Guzzi pistons @ R 50 K, Plated a titanium impeller with Iridium @ R 250 K, fitted a NO[sup]2[/sup] kit R 30 K.   Total investment = R 450 K. I want the first prize at the next comp.
Another thought -- If we enter as a team of 4 ski's, having welded them together, we can definitely qualify for the most expensive. Also, we can get CAT B or C (> than 2 motors, and > than 6 m OAL).  Hmmm 4 skippers, may not work

Seriously though - I want to start a new thread, Calling SADSAA out on their OFFICIAL policy, and see if that elicits a response.

Prejudice ??
1. Breede River = No jetskis, their water jet disturbs the sand /mud  --- KAK !( can you say that here).

2. Knysna Lagoon = Same as above, must be a Cape thing !

3. Durban Ski= You cannot cross the harbour mouth = See response under 1 above.

4. Inanda / Albert Falls dams = Owned by same company. Jetkis = OK on the one, but not the other, cant remember which.  

5. Jozini Dam = Jetski too vulnerable. If you see the size of the Crocks and Insurance quoters ( Hippo).  Just about the only sensible rule so far, but here is the 'kicker'= 4 m inflatable with 4 on board and a 20 Hp motor =OK.  :kaykak.
6. Loskop Dam = See 5 above. But those paddle jobbies are OK.

The list goes on and on!

Anyway = enough of that.
A.M. must still make a plan to get together soon.

This is just speculation,but I also think that maybe jetskis are very unpopular due to those clowns who jet up and down making nuisances of themselves!Oh ja,that and the fact that they often outfish the boats!

Johnno,pls tell me you are joking when you say you had your impeller coated with iridium at a cost of R250k?Thats the price of 2 x brand new jetskis!Not to mention NOS and Guzzi pistons!How much HP does this beast create?

I am sure that the hooligan factor is one of the reasons, but if you think back a few years, when there was little or no control, the majority of people on the water had little or no respect for others. Many times the lack of respect shown is in direct proportion to the cost of the rig. To a small extent it is still like that today.
BUT you must admit, that it IS hard to keep the inner beast in check when on a Jetski.
I say - you wanna be a hooligan -- Cool, but do it where it does not affect others, and be prepared to take the consequences.

Massive horsepower.
I wanted to get a radio active isotope plating on the impeller, on the theory that the rads would get the water moving faster  --- ::gas:     -- But relax i was only joking.

My Kawa is dead standard.

Thank you for clearing that up!The only rational explanation I could think of was that you must have won the lotto and had more money than common sense!Call me gullable if you like?

The problem with those hooligans is that they dont want to be where no-one can see them.They want to be in peoples faces.Thats what show offs do!Anyway,who cares about them??Sooner or later they either self destruct or fizzle away!

Have just sprayed my trailer after converting into breakneck!I am very proud of myself!I cant wait to go for a burn!!Please understand my excitement,I have never ridden a jet ski before,so have no idea what to expect!I am a pure jetski virgin!

How many horses is your Kawa?

Kawa has 160 KHP  ( Kawasaki Horse Power). This is about = to 280 YHP or 400 SHP (Yamaha Horse Power or Seedooooo Horse Power.)

Seriously though it is more than enough for me. The acceleration is mind boggling, so take it easy at first. You will see what I mean about hooligan self control

I am based in Kelvin,JHB.I am off to Vaaldam later on today to take my Seadoo for my blast!Cant wait!I bought it 3 weeks ago,but have been modifying trailer into breakneck and project is finally complete!

I am assuming that you took pic of Garmin whilst on the water judging by big fish showing?Are you on a fishing trip and if so where?

What did your Garmin cost you and are you happy with it?I am looking at getting the Lowrance Eagle CUDA 350 GPS/FF combo as well as the single capsize cannister fishing rig from Sante Racing.Then I will be ready to go out beyond the breakers!

I am in Meyerton currently but moving to Alberton at the end of the year, I paid about 4k for the Garmin combo and this works fine, my mate uses a Lowrance HD5 and is very happy with it. The pics are at Protea, if you need some help give us a pm

Took my ski to vaaldam yesterday for her(and mine) maiden voyage.It was great!I really enjoyed the response and power of the Rotax 4 stroke!Also got the feel of turning etc.cant wait to try her in the surf!!

Protea is a long way offshore,do you go there alone?Bloody huge Johniies that side,do they ever come up alongside your ski?Lots of tax to pay there!!

Hey TAM,

Great to hear that you enjoyed yourself at the dam, its a hell of a difference to a boat bud, it took me a short while to realize just how much simpler it is on a ski.

Protea is about 6 kms out and the drop off is another 1km further out so yip there are lots of Johnno's (sorry Jonnies) out there.

You will see quite a few guys out there on Jet Ski's and believe me some of the guys are really good anglers.

Where did you launch? Here is a clear pic sitting on Protea on a calm day..

I launched at Steyns(waterhaven) side.Yes,Jetski is a totally different animal to a boat.The best part is the towing!Dont even know its behind you until you look in the rearview mirror!

Forgot about the fishfinder/GPS Combo.I was looking at the Lowrance Eagle Cuda 350 at a cost of around R3,5k(black and white).I would rather pay R4k for a Garmin in colour!Where did you buy yours?

Good to see you have done the maiden thing with your jetski

Fishfinders.: Have a look at the Lowrance Elite 5 from Fishtec it goes for abut R 5K.
John Easton of Fishtec is just about the most knowledgeable and helpful guy in th eworld of fishfinders. Or if you want to save big time, do like i did , I brought in a Eagle 640c from USA  3 years ago( they still dont sell it here) I use that on my jetski and it is awesome.

Just got back from two weeks at Guinjata bay. Bad weather, cold green water, jelly fish and loads of wales making fishing bad. But I have to say i did not put my heart into it. Was on the water only twice, did not see any bonnies, so hopefully things will be better by the time you go.

To say that I am feeling dissapointed for you blanking after spending 2 x weeks at Guinjata would be the understatement of the decade!!:cry1.

But hey,thats fishing for you!I was just under the impression that with a JS it is impossible to blank!It might be worth taking a couple of C4 bombs out to sea when conditions are like this!::gas:

I seriously hope that the bluewater is back by the time I arrive there!

When do you go again?Also,there is a JS clinic at Vidal Nov which I am keen to attend!There is apparently mention of this in the Go Fish magazine!

I have to be honest, i really did not try hard, i had my wife and boy there i havent seen for 6 weeks, so i rather stayed on shore and spend time with them. I am 100% sure if i did try harder i would have got fish. Anyway, i am on my way there again the 27th October for the Guinjata comp. I will most probably go to vidal as well, depends on the dates, and even a short trip to ponta in Nov.
Till when you going to be at Jangamo?
