LOOKING FOR PENN PARTS

Good day Sealiners,

Hope everyone is well & some anglers are at least having huge fun at the annual Sardine run.
It is a buster this year with lotsa action & game fish around.

I am looking for some Penn parts, especially Model 506HS reel, in whatever condition, however the aluminum spool must be in a good & usable condition.

I was told that the Models 505 & 506 spool shafts with the added bearings was not a sound decision, hence the short life span of both models in the factory.

I have heard & read up on some articles wrt these 2 models, & seemingly they were not very popular.

But each to his own I suppose.

Am also looking for the solid bars used in the Model 506.

And to ALL those Penn collectors, enthusiast & "die-hards" out there, & also with Penn 501's, 506's , please tell us whats your favorite model, which one you still use, or if you have spares lying around up for sale ?

There are a few collectors around, & who knows what they still looking for, it's always worth a try.

All comments on these 2 models & other Penn users will be appreciated & pse drop me a PM if you have one of those 501/505/506's up for grabs.

Thankyou.

Hi Ben.

Started out fishing with Penn Jigmaster, then moved onto Daiwa SL, Speedmaster, etc. Today it's grinder when going fishing (still have my Speedmasters & TLD15/30 though :) ).

Coming back to Penn, yes the Penn 49 & Jigmasters was the the go-to reel and still being used today (still see fishermen using them, still going strong).

Have a Penn Long Beach 65 (Alu Spool) as part of my so-called collection - the drag is shot though, not in use.

Regards

Hello there MrFisha, are you good ?

I think millions of anglers started off with a 500 Jigmaster when they used multipliers & which taught them a few casting lessons & how to thumb-control the runaway fast spool.

I too switched over to the Daiwa & Shimano m.pliers, however I am a serious sucker for returning to the golden oldies, nl. Penn 500, the 85, the 285, 501, & was only recently told by my distant friend Alan about the 505 & 506 being High speed reels 5:1 ratio, & then my all time favorite the KP reel.

I was told & had read up on the 505 & 506 that they were not made for huge hard fighting fish but seemingly more scratching.

Loving the 500 & 501 then makes me seriously to acquire a 506 to test it myself, hence the post & believe me there is so much to learn about the Penn reel history.
It is a very long history, interesting & keeps you going wanting to learn more about it.....never a dull moment within the Penn history.

It brings me to the 3 books written by Michael Cacioppo on Penn's history since 1932 - 1957.
If there are any book owners wanting to sell......pse drop me a msg.

I wish that some very informed & knowledgeable members nl. Alan & Fritz would share their knowledge on the forum, the unknown, & stories to be told.

And I know rgere are so many more Penn users, owners & collectors out there & will be interesting to share such a wonderful history & legend of Penn.

You should revive that drag & use it, & yes many anglers still use the 49 & 49A.
