Went on a mission yesterday to find some teeth. Started off at fish river point which we found out was thick with weed that made it unfishable.. So we headed to mpekweni. We tried infront of the hotel, nothing, took the trek up to tank bay, nothing. At this stage things were looking bleak. We started walking back and found a small hole that was starting to fill up with the pushing tide.. With the thunder and lightning in full force I put a shot in just over the lip. Wasn't long and got this female of 73kg..she went absolutley wild when I hooked her, cartwheeling, thrashing etc...

After tagging and releasing that rag, I baited up again and lobbed another bait over the lip....once again holding my rod to the ground because of the lightning...abt 10min and slack line of note before committing - the perfect raggie bight..got the fish to the shorebreak quickly then battled for abt 20min trying to get it over the lip. I got it into about 'thigh deep' water when my mate grabbed its tail.. Unfortunately it went wild and he couldn't hold on for long before losing control.. Fish goes back over the drop off and bites me off on my leader. Fish estimated at 160/170kg. My 3rd throw I hooked another solid fish but unfortunately spat the hooks.. Ended up being an exciting afternoon.. Fun and games with wild raggies in the lighting

Back to the weed at Fish Point, I'm starting to think that Fishing there on a neap tide might be a better option to avoid the weed and strong rip past the point.

I'm glad to hear that there are some Big Girls around at least. I'm sure you know about the Raggies Nigel got at Fish Point. They've sure left Gonubie Point though!!

@ darrenK nice raggie, strange to get one in the lightning,I never knew it was common. Well then I guess it's risk getting electrocuted by lighting or get a raggie.
that weer is crazy at the point, fluke is right, when the weed is there mixed with some colour the rags go crazy, they love liveys on those days....
have fished there once where you could see a pocket of sea weed just hanging there, then as the tides turns to low is gets unfishable in a matter of minutes.
