Net vir my altyd ironies dat daar so baie grootbekke was wat SACS wou begin, maar dit nooit gedoen het nie. Noudat iemand dit wel gedoen het, nou is dit nie goed genoeg nie....
But anyway....net n algeme opmerking, nie gerig op enige iemand spesifiek nie....

Had a four day session there in December , nice looking dam with potential but I never managed to entice a run at all.

What you guys think that we use this as an opportunity to develop this dam into something that will meet specimen and our own requirements.It will require some effort and input from those more experienced. Will be interesting to see how much we are prepared to actually do get something going . The days of paying our fees and expecting it all to be done for us seem long gone. If we approached things from the perspective that these dams and fish are actually ours it might alter our perceptions. The owners,Sacs,Dept of Water Affairs etc are only custodians, we can play a far bigger role if we so desire.
Lol! Well if there is any other specimen carp fishing body in SA that is sourcing dams, please point me in their direction.....
soicnarf, it was the members themselves who wanted this dam secured... We fish dams many times based on rumours and stories from others... and it does not always produce what was expected...Yes fine, if it was supposed to be a syndicate and ppl paid thousands of rands to fish it, then fine, lets be upset.

A) SACS is a specimen association yet it source dams on hear say. Do you buy a car without test driving it because the ad says it's good?Ok, so SACS must pay for and stock a venue where damduikers and "local" farm workers can fish for the stock and remove it? Makes no sense...

SdB, the way I know the specimen carp community in SA, "all in good time" means, in several years' time, or never, lol! Sorry, but we have a pathetic setup in SA.....unless you can perform miracles?
Every carp society out in the world, started out with sourcing dams/venues in order to win members over.... and it is still a huge part of their org. (dams) So i dont see what the problem is with SACS doing this.... In South Africa, spec. carp anglers wont just join a body/org. to stand together. To ask anglers to join an org. in order to stand together against pollution, poaching, netting etc. and to uplift the name of carp angling through a set of ethics/code of conduct, is not enough. They want it all, and want it for free if possible.
Look at the clever marketing of SAFBAF+... do you thinking anglers would join them if they didnt have the magazine offers or the discounted rates af a few dams? lol!

Have a feeling that there will be the usual negative and nonconstructive comments from SOME, and very little in the way of action and/or constructive feedback which might actually have some positive influence on the situation. Seems typical of some who seem to want to keep this facet in the dark ages.Sometimes makes one wonder why most other facets have developed to such an extent with strong representation and organizational backing on almost every level leading to the support and finance from large sponsors. For instance Bass,Fly,Salt and conventional.

Nice one SDB and I would like to congratulate SACS for sourcing the dam for its members some time ago. There was a some concern that the dam didn't hold such beauties.I am pleased on their behalf that the dam contains some good fish there as reported by SACS via the owners in the first place.
