Loading a Saragossa 25000 for sliding

Hi guys

Need a bit of help. Want to try sliding with a grinder. I’ve got Trini 30, 40, 50 but reckon I can get more distance and less “drama” with a grinder. Haven’t casted the Trini’s in a while so the overwinds are common 😢 .

Was thinking loading 400m 50lb braid backing and then 180 - 200m 0.55 mono topshot.

Can this work? Am I wasting my time?
I reckon with the drag strength and 600odd m of line I should be good for 90% of ineds I hook?

Can I get that amount of line on the 25000?

Yes, will 100% work, seen a few people do it. You could probably fit 600m of 50lb on there and some top shot depending on the backing braid you use. A shark that runs 400m+ without stopping might also not end at 600m... so you should be fine for the most part.
I see the guys also slide with straight braid using a bungee between the stopper and sinker, I haven't tried it and not sure how effective it is especially when sliding off the surf.

One component to keep in mind would be casting distance. The thicker line on the grinder will see the spool being emptied quicker than it would with braid and, by implication, cause more friction resulting in less distance. For this reason, and this reason only, I would rather stick to the multipliers should you intend on going the mono route.

Thanks for the replies guys. Dewalds makes an interesting point in terms of friction on the grinder with braid.

Would also like to use the grinder for night or low light fishing with big throw baits.

I’ll give it a go and let you guys know how it works out.

Will take the Trini’s with and do a compare!

I have tried to slide with braid and it was an epic fail.
Maybe..............if you have a lot of elevation you would be able to slide with braid.

My advise, just cast the bait.
One get enough extra distance with braid anyway and you do not sit with all the disadvantages associated with sliding

Honestly, I would not go heavier than 65lb.

Firstly, the drag on the Gosa is not strong enough to justify it;
Secondly, thicker braid is more prone to windknots and also hampers your casting distance.
