Light tackle Mozambique

Hi Guys.

I'm planning a trip next year to Moz (inhambane, pomene etc) I have been before but always have taken my big rock & surf stuff.

Now this trip I've decided I'm going to pack light and try light spinning and drop shot all over the place.

But I need a new rig since this is not my usual fishing set up, but also don't want to break the bank.

I've looked at the 7ft Daiwa laguna stick paired with the daiwa crossfire 2500 reel. Feels great and well balanced.

I'm also planning to take enough spoon,plugs,bucktails,paddletails to sink a ship.

Anybody been up there recently? And any tips on what to take.

Howzit bud I'm not that clued up on the Dawia side of things but when it comes to shimano I'd go for a stradic as a base line and happily fish anything higher. Rod wise for shore based stuff Id say 8ft is the miniumum and 9 pearler when it comes to dropshot style fishing any longer and your wrist will be buggered from working the lure.

I agree, nothing shorter than 8ft. A 8/9ft Exceller, Aerocast or Berkley Venom is ideal.

Stradic 5000 is the perfect pairing. You can get about 70-80m depending on the wind and lure.

If you can stretch the budget get a Stradic, awesome little reels. Ive got the 2500 FJ with 8lb braid on a Shimano Crucial model CRS72MA and its pure magic hunting little kingies at the coast or SM Yellows and big cats in the Orange. If not rather get a Shimano Sienna, the Crossfires don't like salt.

Ive got a Sienna and older model Slade that I give to mates to use when we are messing around, they have both waded a few times and with no maintenance apart from rinsing off under the tap are still going strong

You can also look at the Shimano Vengeance or Shakespeare Ugly Stik for more budget friendly options to those already mentioned.

Stradic 5000.. exceler 9' or 9'6" depends on your height..With 20 or 30lb spiderwire EZ braid you get ok abrasion resistance for coral and can cast a mile..Thats my light outfit for spinning from the rocks, have to play big fish carefully but for leeries it's my go to blast! It is not a heavy outfit in the least but that is my favourite rod and reel to spin with.

Also cheapie shimano and daiwa rods, vengence and megaforce are very good rods. Not as sensitive but backbone which is what counts, you're not gonna be catching bass..

Hi Guys.

Just came back from the tackle store, sorry only saw your posts now.

I have bought the Laguna 702MFS and the Crossfire 3000.
Also JDB casting braid 20lbs.

Flippen braid was almost as much as the reel!!!

I like the feel of it and I can walk around all day and use it with 1 hand.

I already have a 12ft spinning rod at home that I either put my SL30 on or a big grinder, but wanted something really light this time.

Anyway might not be the best but that's what I have for now.

IF something big hooks the line I'll be more worried about dropping my 2M or R&R than loosing the fish ha ha ha ha you got to love Moz!!

Now comes all the lures, plastic etc...
