Light as fish attracter?

So i was bored at work again and googled some stuff on fishing and came across guys that use some sort of a light to attract fish at night... The logis after it is that they attract the plakton with the light, and thus the smaller fish, and thus the bigger fish feeding on the smaller fish...

Any1 heard of this before? Or tried it? google it and see... and yes our dams do have plakton in it...

as far as I know this is only used for salt water fishing.

Ive had experience in both freshwater and saltwater night fishing using lights to attract fish, don't know the scientific reasons behind it but i do know that from carp& yellows to kob & shad, they love the artificial light so there must be something to it!
