my baitcaster works both left and right handed (i think)
don't you just untie the lever screw and swing it to the other side?

If your dad is a lefty then a reel with the handel on the right hand side is the perfect reel.
I wish we could By left handeled reels here in SA.
I am a righty fish all my spinning reels left handed and would give my left nut for left handed reels.

All your retrieve hand does is turn a handel in one continious direction. It makes absolutely no sense that People use there dominant hand for this purpose. Using your dominant hand/arm you have...

1.More control over the rod
2. More power in your dominant hand/arm
3.More often than not you will cast with your dominant hand/arm.
4. You have better feeling - sense in your dominant hand.
5. You waste time changing rod from hand to hand so you can operate the handel (Unless you have spun for tigers you will have no idea what I am talking about)

Maybe we should get some lefty's to give us an opinion here - MAN - you're a lefty - share brother.
In the beginning it is a bit akward but it's like learning to ride a bike once you have learnt you will never forget....

I am a lefty and find that a reel with the handle on the right hand side is best for exactly the reasons mentioned above.

As far as I know it is not possible to switch the handle left to right (convertable) with baitcasters. Spinning reels often are convertable.

I'm paddling in the same ducky with Ryan on this, all my spinning reels handles are on the left and I have the same issues with the right handed baitcasters.... Only things I cannot do with my left arm/hand as good as with the right is stirring my coffee, flick the ash off my smoke and shoot a grouping as small as with the right.

amen, ryan!

i started fishing last year with pretty much no previous experience. my first spinning reel i bought, i immediately changed it so that i can cast with my right arm (i am right handed), and can then reel immiately with my left hand. no swopping hands like you say. i still get some strange looks and have people asking me if i'm left handed when i fish...

and i also felt that my dominant right arm, was just way easier to "teach" to cast accurately. i bought my first baitcaster at the end of last year, left hand retrieve. had to order from bass pro shop.

I've got a set of Ambassadeurs. Left & right. Best reels I've ever used.

Been at Bassworld on Friday, and saw some left hand baitcasters there, BTW, if anyone needs replacement parts for their Quantum's or Shimano's, B4 you get into ordering from across the big blue, give them a shout they do have busted reels that you can buy some parts from, did that to fix my cast-bar's kicklever, which was worn-out a bit, got the new one in and voila ies wheking like nobodies business again......
