hi gents ( and ladies)

 

so as per the topic name, i'm a newbie, and must admit, i know nothing bout fishing, esp freshwater!

but i'm keen to give it a gooi.

the easiest dam for me would be Inanda, and the occational Midmar, or howick, if there is anything worth while.

so i'm not gonna spend a massive fortune just yet, just want to get the basic tools to get me going to see if i catch on (excuse the pun)

So i'v come across a store that has a rod/reel combo for R300. 9foot rod, composite fibreglass. sorry but the brand details elude me.

what elso would i need to get going, tackle wise. i know its a very wide and genera question, but like i say, knowledge is fiant. i'v heard mention of mielie bom, or bom holder. which one? which hooks, swivels, weights?

and any1 have any info on inanda? what species are there, any special tricks, spots, ideas?

 

sorry guys i know u see these type of questions all the time, but hey, i gotta start somewhere right?

If I had to help you pick the equipment to start out a fishing hobby I would help you as follows.

2 x Sensation Carp Hunter 13ft rods @ R175.00 each.
2 x Okuma Renegade bait runners @ R250.00 each.
2 x Tri-pod Aluminum rod stands @ R160.00 each.
1 x Landing net @ R100.00
1 x plastic tackle box @ R120.00
10 x different dips @ R20.00 each
4 x different floaties @ R12.00 each.
2 x rolls of doubleX line 5.5kg @ R60.00 each.
20 x sinkers(different weights) @ around R3.00 each
24 x Mustad hooks(4 packs different sizes) @ around R15.00 a pack
1 x pack of single swivels @ R10.00
1 x pack of three way swivels @ R10.00
1 x 2kg mielie bom @ R15.00
8 x policeman @ R2.50 each.

That should put you well on your way. Its not the most expensive tackle but it should last you a while.

That is less than R2000.00 for a decent setup that is sure to land you a couple of fish. Obviously one can go way more expensive than this. But, this will not cost you an arm and a leg and will then give you the ability to decide whether or not you like this hobby.
