Lead systems

Right, obviously different scenarios call for different lead set-ups, so in the interests of keeping it simple, let's ignore special circumstances like thick weed, very deep silt etc. where choices are pretty much determined by conditions.

If you were fishing a nice hard bottom gravel bar at medium distance for 40lb+ fish....what do you prefer?

I have seen that COG system and in my opinion it looks a bit gimicky.

Mmm...interesting set-up that. I can certainly see the thinking behind it, but I personally doubt that it will make a major difference to my fishing. I don't rely on the lead to hook the fish, I think the balance of the rig is of utmost importance, along with the obvious quality and sharpness of the hook.

It's interesting that the majority of anglers have voted for the safety clip set-up. I do use safety clips at times, but only when I feel it's necessary - heavy snag fishing for example. In open water on hard bottoms I find the sensitivity of running rigs greatly improves the number of runs I get. I only started using them in the last year or so, but it's been a revelation for me.

@Bankstick, what do you mean "chod rig and safety clip"? Do you somehow combine the two? Or have you cheated and picked two favourites?

If that's the case, then I guess technically one of your votes should go to the helicopter rig? Personally I'm not a huge fan of the choddy, I prefer the shot-on-the-hair or occasionally combi rigs on hard bottoms and I use a very simple short supple rig for pop-ups over silty bottoms on a heli rig.

I have found that using heavy leads (5oz+) improved my results and I need to get rid of those leads from my rig.

No I dont combine the two - i hardly use the helicopter rig..i find the chod rig is a safer option.

The chod rig and safety clip are my two favourites
