I'm not sure if the general public can lauch there, but at Stony point, Betty's Bay, there is a boat slip. It does have a gate / boom, so I'm not sure if you need to be a resident or member of something to use it or not ?

It's right next to the penguin colony boardwalk, but I'm not sure how you would find out if you may use it or not, it looks fairly new - it's built right next to the old slip. Parks board might know, as they charge a fee to view the penguins, so they have a office right next to the slipway.

Hi I know about bettys, have to be a member and resident to use.
Thanks for the info. I was trying to find some one who has launched at the maasbaai hangklip slip with a solid boat as there are rocks and shallow areas etc, but ribs do launch there and was hoping someone had launched a solid hull there. To get info if it's possible and what dangers etc.

thanks for the reply.

hi barry, i think on high tide u might just just be able to launch your vessel there, the shallows streches far and there's lotsa rocks. probably not a wise thing to do with your boat. i only ever launched a semi rigid out there.

With your boat you may battle a bit. Depends on the tide though, you will need a 4x4. We used to launch our 16ft monohull there quite easily in any tide. I know the cats lie lower in the water so not sure how it would work for you. As long as its not on dead low you may be ok.
There is the odd boulder lying around there but you can walk the boat out before wetting the motors.

Grab your gallie tackle and take a drive out there to have a look before you drag the boat along. There's a nice stretch of coast left of the slip to explore.

No problem for a 16ft cat at Maasbaai as long as the tide is not very low.
We launch our 16ft Sea cat with 2x40hp and use the breakneck trailer to winch the boat up on the trailer. What I have found works well for us is to put a chain around the breakneck trailer so as to limit the amount the trailer tilts. We get the front to lift about 250 to 300mm that is all, enough to get the bow onto the first rollers. I keep the car well away from the water and hand winch the boat on. I also use my wifes 4l vx Prado to pull the boat out and not my 2.7 diff lock Toyota bakkie. I think you will need 4 wheel drive to pull the boat out.

Kleinmond is also a option and a lot easier but it can get dangerous at times as you leave and enter with a swell. Pick the right day and you will be ok

thanks mombakkie, the cat I have is light and pretty bouyant, at the breede she floats in about 400mm water so may be fine, I will look to walking her out as suggested. thanks

Guy looking to buy my boat wants to launch there and do test there, I was hesitant as do not know if that will work for him to launch there. In my opinion bettys would be better, but apparently at low tide is too shallow?

Juanita, thanks, that's good info. Have 4x4 so will give it a test.

Have done Kleinmond many times and have got that one down. when the swell is huge the in and out the gap can be interesting.

Thanks
Barry
