loaded and ready to fish

105 amp/hr battery

30 lb trolling motor

5 rod holder

cooler box with food and drinks

crate with

plano boxes with small cranks...topwater...jerkbaits...terminal tackle...rattlin spots...spinerbaits...buzzbaits...etc etc

smelly stuff

spike it

kvd juice

lipgrip for whiskers fellas

rapala sissors for braid long nose for general purpose...getting deep hooks out.

what more do you need...and the best part it cost nothing to run...no skippers...no cof...no annual boat registration...plain and simple no kak...just good fun and you keep cool on these really hot summer days because your feet are in the water.

you are quiet and have absolute control over your position while fishing.

aaaaah the cup holder finaly got remembered, now have you designed a cooling mech that you could connect the cup holder to the batt to keep the SAPS Coffee cold?

wrap it in a brown sack and dip it in the water every now and again then hang it under the seat like well did on our trucks to keep the water cold...we use to hang the water sack on the mirror or on the front bumper...keeps it nice and cool.

Cranky thats real cool man! The more I see these pontoons the more I like them. Two things I am wondering about.

1. The seat reminds me of school seats which get kak uncomfy? Does it after a while? Can't one add some comfortable seat instead?
2. What are the odds of standing and fishing on this rig?

they are very comfy if positioned correctly...i have been fishing off the kickboat for about 4/5 years and found if the seat is leaning frorward it becomes very uncomfortable because you tend to slip forward then keep having to push yourself back all the time...this happened to me this weekend with my new kickboat until i fitted the trolling motor at lunch time then it was fine because of the weight at the back...it tilted the seat a little further back.

you can fit any seat...it just cost a lot more for the padded ones...something else to remeber if you are using your legs to propel the kickboat you dont want a seat which you cant sit in properly like the plastic one...the other problem with the padded seats is when the foam gets wet them you gona feel it.

i spend a lot of time fishing on the kickboats...i dont just build them....thats why i am modifying them all the time...and they are all designed and built to fit in my caddy van or the polo car.

i nearly fell on back this afternoon we did a breakdown of what it would cost to replace the rig as it is in the picture...complete rods reels...trolling motor...battery and tackle all included...a modest value R38000.00...believe it or not.

i am still trying to figue out why you would want to stand on a kickboat...why not buy a small rubber duck which folds up even  smaller than a kickboat and you can put a motor on the back and balance...no problem.

the beuty about a kickboat is the cotrol you have while fishing...as soon as you take your legs out the water you no longer have control over the kickboat....you then need a foot control trolling motor to keep your position...with your legs in the water your hands are free to fish.

same with the way i have set up the trolling motor...it is out the way...i have full control over the kickboat even when the trolling motor is running i use my legs to steer...if i want to go somewhere fast i switch to 5 and off i go...if i want to fish and move slowly i put the trolling motor on 1...the only other thing i still need is a mirror to see behind...that will be the next experiment.

Hi Loams...
1. ive got a very comfy chair that comes standard with the EXPLORER XPT2
You can get the exact same chair from BASS PRO SHOP:

http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_10205159____SearchResults

2. The odds are really good!!ive been standing on mine for a long time but changed it back to the way it was, but im sure there is a way that you can make a pontoon so that you can sit on them and stand on them.

Hey Cranky, thinking about it, I wouldnt want to stand and fish off it all the time, but just sometimes when I need to. That is the one thing I don't like about the float tube, it's just too low at times.

Thanks BL!!

:::S  That is an AWESOME fishing platform Cranky! I love kick-boating – it adds something to the whole fishing experience and you don’t have the maintenance/cost/towing/launching/restrictions issues.Tight lines:fishn

i suppose i am spoilt...having the kickboat a tug 10 and a raker bass boat to use...when i want to stand i fish on the bassboat.

it would be a lot easier to make a wooden platform to stand on if needed...it would be just 2 cross beams with the wood on top...you can take the seat off our kickboat which is the top platform...if you live in durban come to hazelmere on sunday morning...we will have our kickboat for people to look at and test drive if you like.

if i have enough time i will put another junior one together for anyone who wants to try it out...please note all juniors must wear a lifejacket at all times even on a normal bass boat...ever tried to swim with all your clothes on...it is no joke.

I do it all the time, haven't just stumbled upon the name of "Mr. Cell-phone Drowning clown" for nothing, killed my last cell this way three times over the last effort on my part was the final one, it couldn't be saved. but yeah, you're are absolutely right, its a real female dog of note, even worse when you still hold on to expensive tackle whilst drowning towards your craft or the bank.

we fished hazelmere yesterday....got lots of dinks...then finally got the blow up i was waiting for all day...landed a nice fish and left.

we managed to finish another kickboat with a trolling motor complete by the early hours of yesterday morning.

we decided to put them thru their paces...we went around the entire dam...fished all the coves and still managed to fish the river again before we left.

the fastest speed on the gps was 5.3 km/hr with the wind and using my flippers to increase the speed slightly by .3.

against the wind 4.5 km without assiting using flippers...using flippers 4.7 km/hr

with the wind 5 km/hr without the using the flippers

now the challenge starts...i need to increase the speed to 10 km with the wind...any ideas?

bigger trolling motor? if so what size?

bigger pontoons? by increasing the size will that help lift the pontoon so that less pontoon is in the water?

3 bade? this might improve slightly

i was using a 30 lb with a 105 amp/hr battery.

the battery was flat at the end of the day...a smaller battery will not last the day.

anyone know the size of hazelmere how many km around the perimeter.
