Hi All,

I went up to langebaan this past Saterday, launch the boat, and off we went.  This was our first time and we tried moving around as much as possible to find the fish.

We finished Mainly at "E" , then "F" and "G". (Thanks Wayne for the Pic)

All that was caught during our mission, was some small stumps. (avg 20-25cm) We through all of them back, however, i would like to know if anyone else was on the water on Sat.

If there was anyone else, could you please reply to this post, and tell us about your catches, etc.

I spoke to a few skippers after we retrieved the boat, and they were all just as unlucky as we were.

@Daisy, if you read this, please comment too.

Enjoy, hope you have alot of 'On Dads!'

Hi,

@Daisy, what spot were you at on Sat morning?  We were at spot "E", just lowerd down of it.

We were using Prawn, Mussel, Pilchard, and Squid.  Can you advise on a trace and bait?

Thanks in advance.

Hi There

I am a new member to Sea line and when I saw Oom Daisy topic I was very exited. I got some guys together and we launch the boat at 4:30 am on Saturday morning. We tried fishing at D, E, G, A and caught some small stumps about 30 cm and a 2 KG Elf.

I always get exited to read oom Daisy topics but never catch all the fish he does, but I am new in the game and wont give up.

Oh yes,Is it maybe because it was spring tide on Saturday that we did not catch any thing decent.

Thanks for all the help everyone that contributed with the pics and info on Langebaan !!!!!!

Grant when you are down on the line,it`s not to say that you are then on the right spot.Thinks to note.On the Western side there is a red bait bank and you will not catch much here.On the East is the start of the prawn bank and here the water is to strong as the tide goes in/out and grass and dirt will get stuck on your bait which fish will not take.Average dept is 4 meter, you have to find holes away from the spots mention here where holes are of 6 to 7 meter. This must be close to a sandbank/gullie.Always anchor behind other boats as to pick up their chum line.Use a sliding sinker, then swivel ,800 mm trace and a swivel that can open to be able to remove the hook.Use a steel needle ,enter the mouth of the fresh pilchard ,push through to close to the tail.Clip on the 6,0 hook and pull the trace back into the pilchard ,but leaving the hook proud halfway into the pilchard. It helps to have a sliding 4,0 hook on the trace which should be hooked right through the head, not eyes,of the pilchard allowing the pilchard to be kept straight  at all times.Do not put any cotton on bait.Change bait as often as posiible.Good luck.

Hi Daisy,

Thank you very much for the information you have provided for me and others. I will definately try the above mentioned. Can you please tell me how the rest of the month will be at langebaan and the June month, does winter fishing in the lagoon produce?

I take it the elf move up east, but is there anything else?

Thanks again

i dunno about catch records from previous years, but i strongly suspect one could make a "killing" with the steenbras in winter their. this is just from an angling point of view, i have no facts to validate this...

1. The stumps go off the bite in winter
2. The small fish go off the bite
3. your prawn will last longer on the hook
4. warm water will still come gushing down from the top at spring tides
5. less anglers on the lagoon than summer, less noise etc

Just have to check the weather and get a good day....

Thanks Marthin and Fishy Boy.

Well i am trying to get back out on the water this sat (16 may) and hoping we will get something better.

I am going to try look for those holes at spot "E" and try the trace and bait suggestion that Daisy mentioned.

I hope there will be better success, as i cannot understand what we are doing wrong to get either nothing or something really small.

Any info is appreciated. I would still like to know where we can pump blood worm there, Daisy *wink*.

Anyway, best of luck and hope there alot of "On, Dads!"

Wayne ask daisy about the smooth hound i got on last time i was there. At one stage i told him i think a boat without lights had taken my line, and started to panic asking him if we could lift the anchor. It took almost all my mono and i could see the braid shining through before it stopped the 1st time. Eventually it broke the clip on my bought steel trace, as i was actually looking for elf and not expecting this hiding, at about the 3rd time i got it to the boat.

As for the other guys reading about daisy's bait presentation, i saw it with my own eyes. Wasnt catching anything except steentjies, changed my presentation to his, and caught an elf, some sharks, got bites etc. Havent fished anywhere that bait presentation is as important as Langebaan. When you are done with even a frozen pilchard it has to look lifelike. EVEN AT NIGHT!!

Hi Marthin,

So how do you do your bait presentation for steenies?  Any tips.  Maybe trace a bait choice please.

Thanks for all the help, really appreciate it.

Cheers

Ohlala Grant you ask a very big question..took me three years to find out and after getting grumpy ,two Sealiners shared the secret with me.I am a religious person and they made me swear not to tell.So please skip me on this one..sorry my brother.
