Lakenvlei 12-15/07/2007

Guys

What can I say? Lakenvlei? EISH? :dunno1perhaps ARGH?:headb or perhaps :swear

We started fishing on thursday and stopped on sunday morning, and need I say we've tried all the tactics, rigs and presentations on all the lures and flies for both species and well it stayed at fishing and absolutely fishing, NOOOOOOO catching whatsoever.

But, it was a great weekend away nonetheless.  Also a very interesting weekend, as we had an airshow included in the package, it was freezing cold:ifishin, Friday evening they recorded a - 8C (yes minus 8 degrees) so, you can imagine why them feeshies didn't want to eat anything,:cry1 measured the water temp on Friday and it registered a mere 7,4 degrees C, hence the lockjaw.

Anyhow will post pics and a short description of the airshow later tonight.:help

Great weekend NONETHELESS!!!!

Hey Little green fish,

I also happenned to be in that area over that time (Saturday 13 July).

Fished at a place called the Lochs (some private syndicate) just out side of belfast.

Caught 28 trout (including 3 browns) for the day on red eyed damsel nymphs (in brown) - nothing spectacular in size but never in my life have I seen trout that are so agrressive - boiling on the surface after flies and slamming the flies. They were all stockies of about 35cm but great sports none the less.

These  guys were so hungry that they would snap us off and we would catch the same fish a few casts late with the fly still trailing in it's mouth.

I have never caught trout before and this was a liftime memory.

Yes I also agree there were polar bears and penguins on the water on Saturday.

You's were lucky you only had polar bears and penguins on the water, them thingy's even crept into bed with us man........

Hey, gald to see that some-one caught fish around the area at that time, I was starting to wonder about the whole trout hype and thought that it was well just that A HYPE, but now I think that it must have been Lakenvlei's waters, It's some serious mass of liquid and the H20 was bitterly cold, 30cm's from the surface measured a mere 7.4 degrees C so no bite not one between two types of tackle Bass and Trout between 4 anglers.......

But again it's the fishing and not so uch the fish!!!!!! (although 1 would have been nice)

Congrats again, you seemed to have picked the venue correctly!!!!

Hi LGF,

I did not have a choice in the venue but the guys whom we cracked the nod from had a very nice venue there were 8 of us in the group and I believe we managed somewhere in the region of 60 odd fish for the day.

Luck was just on my side......
Next time you will have to join us.....

Ryan

I certainly will have to, I need to get more practise with my flygear though, although I have caught LGF's before and 1 trout, I need to up the tally on the trouts, unfortunately the trout expeditions only take place once every two or so years....
